The organizers of the gamescom have announced how the event will take place in 2021. Here you will find all the information regarding date, location, and concept.
On what date will the gamescom 2021 take place? The gamescom 2021 is scheduled to run from Wednesday, August 25, 2021, to Sunday, August 29.
Where will the gamescom 2021 take place? Due to the pandemic, the gamescom is planned as a hybrid event this year. There will be a limited event at the location in Cologne, but also a digital experience that is accessible to everyone.
However, the organizers clarify through a press release: “If the pandemic development makes an on-site implementation impossible, the gamescom will once again take place purely digitally.”
When are tickets available for the gamescom 2021? Currently, the start of ticket sales is planned for May 2021. However, the number of tickets will be significantly reduced compared to previous events.
This is how the gamescom 2021 will run online and on-site
The organizers are planning a concept that essentially includes a fair at two locations: once physically in Cologne and digitally online.
This is what to expect on-site: Here is an “entertainment area” planned for a reduced number of visitors. Here, trying out new games will be the focus. Queues will be managed using a digital management system.
As the organizers explain, a number of measures have been developed, including “hygiene and distance rules, regulations for stand construction, as well as solutions that ensure a safe fair operation, such as digital management at the stands.”
There will also be a space for e-sports tournaments and cosplay shows, as well as a business area for industry visitors.
This will happen digitally: Online, the concept of the last year’s digital gamescom will be further developed. Among other things, the following points will take place digitally:
- The Opening Night Live will be broadcast digitally
- Various events will take place online
The Opening Night was also broadcast live in 2020 and was where premieres and trailers were primarily showcased.
Moreover, the events “devcom,” a developer conference, and the “gamescom congress” are planned both on-site and digitally.
With the gamescom, we want to make an on-site event possible for gaming fans in late summer again. This year, we are focusing on the super fans and allowing them to try out the latest games on-site.
At the same time, the gamescom 2021 will reach millions of people worldwide again through the further developed digital offering. The results of the community surveys confirm this concept, which we have developed in close coordination with many of the major exhibitors. No question, the planning will be much more challenging for all involved in this special situation than usual. But the enthusiasm of the gaming community is definitely worth these efforts!
