The early access to Battlefield 2042 has been running for almost a week now, and players are discovering more about which weapons are particularly effective. Currently, the PP-29 stands out prominently. MeinMMO shows you what makes the submachine gun so popular and which loadout is suitable.
What kind of weapon is this? The PP-29 is a submachine gun based on the PP-19, which shooter veterans should be familiar with. Like all SMGs, it is particularly strong at close range.
In Battlefield 2042, it is currently among the most popular and best weapons. This is partly because assault rifles are performing poorly due to a blooming issue, but the PP-29 also has some advantages on its own.
How do you unlock the weapon? It is the second submachine gun you can unlock. To do so, you need to reach level 18.

The PP-29 is a strong all-rounder among SMGs
What are the strengths of the weapon? The PP-29 offers several advantages over other weapons and many strengths:
- High rate of fire
- Sufficient damage
- A large magazine
- Well controllable
- Strong at close and medium range
- Not as problematic in spread as assault rifles
With the right setup, the MP is not only strong at close distances but can also score at range.
As a result, it is not only on par with most assault rifles but currently even superior due to the problems in the other weapon class. YouTuber Lost has presented his weapon loadout.
This is how his setup for the PP-29 looks:
- Optic
- DD Holo
- Magazine
- High-Power
- Barrel
- Extended Barrel
- Under-barrel
- The PP-29 has no under-barrel
Note: If you are experimenting with other attachments, you need to be aware of another problem. Because attachments often do not do what their description states. So it’s best to test your weapon setups against bots.
This is how it plays: The weapon is well controllable and has only vertical spread. So when firing, you just need to pull down and can shoot steadily at your opponents.
At distance, you should only use short bursts. The weapon does not have an alternative firing mode, so you have to control your shots yourself.
With this setup, you get an SMG that, while it may not have the highest rate of fire in its class, functions very well as an all-round weapon. Additionally, you can unlock it relatively early.
If you are more into long distances, a DMR is the weapon of your choice.
Assault rifles have a problem with spread
What is the problem with assault rifles? Assault rifles in Battlefield 2042 are very imprecise at the beginning of a burst of fire. Unfortunately, weapon attachments do not help, and even standing still does not improve much about the blooming mechanics.
This mostly affects assault rifles, but LMGs seem to have issues as well. Sniper rifles and DMRs are therefore unbeatable at longer ranges, while SMGs dominate close combat.
However, developer DICE is aware of the problem and is working on improvements.
