In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you can of course buy various skins in the shop again. These now even have special effects, which many players are annoyed about.
What are these effects? With the launch of Season 1, the sale of skins really took off in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. As every year, Activision offers especially colorful and eye-catching specimens in the shop again.
Some of the new skins even come with weapon blueprints that trigger special death effects. These effects are triggered – as the name suggests – whenever a kill is made with the respective weapon blueprint.
For example, the “Wintertime-Showtime” tracer pack includes the “Snowbomb Death Effect,” which makes dead operators disappear in an explosion of snow. Another effect disintegrates opponents in a colorful explosion. It doesn’t matter whether you or a teammate makes the kill, as you can also see the effects of other players.
Players find death effects “ridiculous”, are annoyed
What does the community think of the effects? Many players are annoyed by the effects and express this on social networks. One player complains on Reddit: “We all agree that this is ridiculous, right?” The post received over 3,000 upvotes from the community.
However, many players are not bothered by the fact that the skins themselves are colorful and look “ridiculous.” A major criticism of the effects is that they can make it difficult to see an opponent. In the worst case, the opponent may even get the kill because you didn’t see him because of the effect or saw him too late.
A Reddit user summarizes: “I have nothing against quirky skins, but I don’t want a rave in my face when someone kills someone in front of me.”
Effects are hidden behind a setting
How do you turn off the death effects? You can turn off the death effects by disabling the option “Kill and corpse effects” in the settings under “Account & Network”.
By turning off this option, you also disable the gore effects. This means that killed characters will no longer be depicted as “dismembered.” There is no way to turn off just the colorful death effects while keeping the gore effects active.
A compromise for you might be to add the option to your quick settings, in case you occasionally want to play with gore effects – for example, in zombie mode or in lobbies where not many players use skins with death effects.
