A new trailer for the horror gem Hunt: Showdown has surfaced and it’s causing quite a stir among the fanbase. Because in this short video, three of the biggest fan wishes are fulfilled at once.
What is happening with Hunt: Showdown? In summer, the horror shooter gem will receive a massive update on Steam. Although the announced jump to a new version of the engine is not yet finished, the fans probably couldn’t care less.
The developers present the new features in a really short trailer titled “Wild Target,” which however contains some info in its brief runtime. Because the update, along with the event, fulfills three of the biggest community wishes in one go.
- It can finally rain. While that sounds mundane, fans have been wishing for it for years.
- A new boss, “Rotjaw,” enters the Bayous and it is indeed an alligator. A new boss was something players have long wanted, and the fact that it will actually be the “Gator” is celebrated by the community. This has been a sort of “running gag” for the past few years.
- The boss does not have a fixed spawn point in one of the camps, but can move across the map. Players have been wishing for such a mechanic for a long time and very loudly.
When will the update come? That is currently not known. Right now, we only know that it is supposed to happen in summer and will come with an event. We can expect a similar mechanic from the event, as from the last one. So, collect points on the map and unlock things with them.
A first glimpse of the new features is shown in the aforementioned trailer. It takes you on an impressive trip through the Bayous, dripping with atmosphere. Watch it right here:
“How the rain flows over the roofs looks absolutely fantastic”
How are the fans reacting now? Undeniably positive. Most updates received by the snappy community of Hunt are rather mixed, most of the time someone has something to complain about. But after the Wild-Target trailer, the mood on reddit is undeniably good.
The trailer achieved 1,500 upvotes in 4 days on the reddit for Hunt: Showdown. Most other posts there rarely reach the 500 mark. Additionally, as of June 5, 334 comments have found their place under the video.
There, some people celebrate the update and the trailer itself, while others continue the meme of the past years. One of the comments with the most upvotes is: “Please Crytek, finally make an alligator boss” and the response to that: “No, I don’t think they’ll ever do that.”
They are referencing the standard comments under almost every trailer from the past few years. Here too, it quickly becomes clear again that Crytek is striking at the heart of the fans with the update.
What do the fans say? At this point, we would like to directly quote some of the comments. They come from a reddit thread where the trailer with the changes is being discussed:
- IAmOliveMeister says: “Wow, how the rain flows over the roofs looks absolutely fantastic”
- jmdmagic continues the joke, gets 682 upvotes for: “I have no idea guys, do you think the new boss could become an alligator?”
- TimeGlitches writes: “The alligator is cool, but the rain is even better”
- Der_Spanier says: “The rain is a solid 10 out of 10. I’m so glad it’s finally coming, after the developers had initially expressed concerns that rain might disturb the soundscape”
- NowaVision writes: “I hope this is not just an event thing. I want the rain and the alligator to be part of the main game!”
- Marionberry says: “Okay, wow. This is like.. everything I’ve ever wanted in this game?!”
