Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has received its second season and with it a new playable villain: Mr. Freeze. Or more precisely, Mrs. Freeze, as the well-known supervillain appears in the game as a lesbian woman. Although her gameplay is said to be quite good, the choice and appearance of the character are causing confusion.
What kind of game is this?
- In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, you play as the namesake villains and need to eliminate fallen heroes from the DC Universe. At its core, the game is a loot shooter featuring various playable characters known from Batman, Superman, and more.
- The game has not been able to achieve significant success since its release. According to a report, it has incurred over 200 million dollars in losses in the first months.
- In the first season, one of the most popular supervillains ever came into the game, but due to so much grind or cost, hardly anyone wanted to earn him. Now the next trouble looms.
This is new in Suicide Squad: On July 25, Suicide Squad received its second season. The new hero or villain here is Mrs. Freeze, a “gender bent” version of Mr. Freeze, a villain with ice superpowers.
Mr. Freeze, whose real name is Doctor Victor Fries, is one of the most recognizable supervillains in the Batman universe and was portrayed in movies by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger even reprised the role at the Oscars in 2024, albeit only as a gag.
Mrs. Freeze in Suicide Squad is a copy of the villain, just in female form and homosexual. The whole idea behind the character is roughly that she uses the ice powers to save her terminally ill wife, Nora.
Along with Mrs. Freeze come several other contents into the game, including new skins, battles, and a battle pass. However, Mrs. Freeze is receiving harsh criticism. You can find the official trailer on YouTube.

On Reddit and in the comments under several YouTube videos, there is confusion regarding the choice of Mrs. Freeze as the new villain. If a female villain with ice powers was desired, one should simply have chosen Killer Frost. At least she is canonically part of the Suicide Squad. Alternatively, Nora Fries is a choice.
To change an established character like Mr. Freeze in such a way feels like it is “intentional.” Nobody can seriously expect that this decision would be received well.
With Mrs. Freeze, even the effort seems lacking. She has a stereotypical look with short hair and masculine features, something that lesbian characters in games are almost always represented with.
On Steam, there have been significantly more negative than positive reviews since the update. The player count has increased from about 60 to about 600, but that’s far from being a peak position.
At least the gameplay of Mrs. Freeze is partly good. She moves by creating bridges of ice for herself, which is clearly more fun than with other characters. What doesn’t fit is that she has fire attacks for some reason. For a frost villain, that is questionable.
Mr. Freeze is firmly associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the actor who lent the villain his voice and appearance for many Batman fans. To see the character changed so drastically apparently does not please the fans much.
