In Destiny 2, an exotic rocket launcher is currently making waves. As long as Bungie doesn’t nerf it, everyone should give it a try now.
This is about the Exotic: The Wardcliff Coil is an exotic rocket launcher with an interesting history. It first appeared in databases as an icon in 2015, but it wasn’t until autumn 2017 that the Exotic could finally be played in Destiny 2.
Back then, it was debated whether it had the potential to rival the Gjallarhorn, a powerful weapon that blasts everything out of the way. However, the Wardcliff Coil did not achieve that – at least not until now. Because in Season 6, it is performing exceptionally well.
The Wardcliff Coil in Season 6 deals heavy damage
This is how strong the Wardcliff Coil is now: With the recent Season 6 update, Bungie has significantly buffed the rocket launcher. The PvE damage against boss enemies has been increased by a whopping 115%, and the damage can even rise to +160% the weaker the enemy is.
Since other Exotics like the Sleeper Simulant or the Whisper of the Worm, which previously occupied the Exotic slot, have been severely restricted in their ammunition reserves, the Wardcliff Coil is becoming the first choice for many Guardians.
How does this damage buff manifest? The Wardcliff Coil is now powerful against Taken in Gambit, against strike bosses, against raid bosses, and any PvE enemies in general.

What exactly is the Wardcliff Coil? It is an exotic rocket launcher for the power slot. It deals Arc damage and has these special perks:
- Crazy Scientist – exotic perk: The weapon fires a volley of rockets.
- Mechanized Loader: The weapon automatically reloads when picking up ammunition.
Now it deals even more than double the damage to bosses in PvE than before, making it a new top Exotic.
How do I get it? You can obtain the Wardcliff Coil randomly from exotic engrams. Xur can also bring it. Since it is a Year 1 Exotic, it has probably been gathering dust in many of your vaults for a long time.
