Players of World of Warcraft are complaining about a particularly annoying problem. Fights last forever – even when there are no enemies left.
Anyone spending their days in the new areas of World of Warcraft, Mechagon and Nazjatar, has surely encountered one or the other annoying bug. Players are particularly disturbed that fights seem to have no end. The character simply remains “in combat” permanently. This severely restricts progress.
What is the problem? In Nazjatar and Mechagon, players often struggle with not being able to “get out of combat.” This means they cannot mount their ride. Logging out of the game in the usual way is also not possible.
What are players fighting against? This is the big mystery. The question “What the hell am I fighting?” garnered a lot of sympathizers in the World of Warcraft subreddit. 96% of users agreed, quickly giving the article over 5,500 upvotes. The highest-rated response was: “Nazjatar. With all of Nazjatar.”
And that seems to be correct in some cases. Nazjatar has some “enemies” that are hardly identifiable as such. There are magical summoning orbs all over the place that fire area effects at nearby players.
Once they hit the player, the character goes into combat – and often cannot escape from it. Since the orbs cannot be destroyed, ending the fight is only possible by running several hundred meters away.
In another spot, players are often in combat with creatures they can barely notice. Since Nazjatar is full of “critter,” i.e. small animals, players often aggro them due to various effects. When such a mini-crab, which is only a few pixels big, hits the character, it’s hardly noticeable.
Equally problematic are enemies that are scripted to fight another enemy, such as dueling naga or crabs fighting each other. If you somehow get these enemies into a fight but do not generate enough aggro, the two enemies simply continue to battle each other. Figuring out who the character is actually fighting is not that easy.
Lastly, there are of course a number of “bugged” enemies that are stuck in the ground. They try to attack the player but can never reach them. This is particularly frustrating when it involves enemies in stealth. Spotting them is virtually impossible.
How do players solve the problem? To finally get out of combat, there are some methods that work better for certain characters than others.
- Rogues use “Vanish” to escape combat.
- Night Elves use their racial ability Shadowmeld.
- Mages activate their Invisibility.
However, most characters cannot rely on such effects. Those who simply cannot get out of combat often resort to more drastic measures:
- One uses their Hearthstone to change areas.
- One quits the game with Alt+F4 and waits 5 minutes before logging back in.
- One lets themselves be killed.
It is to be hoped that Blizzard will implement some hotfixes to address the “permanent combat” issue.
Have you also been suffering from this problem in Nazjatar or Mechagon? Or have you been spared so far? How do you solve this little problem?
