Thieves attempted to steal cars. However, the operation failed. They used a Gameboy, which surprised the police as a complex hacking tool.
The thieves had just stolen a Mitsubishi Outlander. They were recorded by video surveillance, which showed not only the theft but also the individuals. They were driving their own car, not the stolen vehicle.
Upon arrest, the police found a GameBoy that the thieves had used as a tool for the theft (via kotaku.com).
From the outside, the device looks like a real console, and it doesn’t attract attention when you walk down the street with it. However, such a disguised device allows thieves to steal a vehicle without being detected.

What kind of GameBoy is that? In fact, it was not a real GameBoy on which you could play popular games. It is more like one of those products that you can buy on Wish: Imitative, unlicensed devices that offer a bunch of cheap mini-games that run more or less smoothly.
How did the police discover the functionality? In the car, the police found not only the fake GameBoy: On one of the thieves’ mobile phones was a tutorial video explaining how the GameBoy works and how to unlock a car with it. According to the police, the device can unlock a modern car in a matter of seconds and then steal it.
The police reported that the device is valued at 20,000 British pounds (about 23,000 euros). That probably sounded like a fair investment for the thieves if they could then steal a car worth 120,000 euros. However, the three thieves are now in prison, serving one and a half to two years. The investment did not pay off.
Other thieves are also filmed during their crimes and receive their punishment
For instance, a delivery driver allegedly stole a PS5 instead of delivering it. A family man filmed the whole action of the delivery driver and uploaded the evidence on Twitter. The video showed the driver distributing several smaller Amazon packages to neighbors. Then he placed a larger package on the street, which he later loaded back into his vehicle. The PlayStation 5 was said to be inside.
Graphics card manufacturers are also affected by such thefts. At one graphics card manufacturer, thieves stole graphics cards worth over 300,000 US dollars. One morning, 40 boxes containing a total of 220 units of the GeForce RTX 3090 went missing, and no one knows where they disappeared.
