Where will the filming take place? It was officially confirmed on January 7, 2021, that filming will take place in Hungary. Adam Goodman, head of MidAtlantic Films, reported to the Hollywood Reporter that a studio for Lionsgate in Hungary is currently being prepared.
When does the filming of the Borderlands film start? Goodman further stated in the interview that his studio is fully booked until summer 2021. It is assumed that the Borderlands film will be shot in the first half of this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, strict protocols for filming are in place in Hungary and film crews must adhere to strict rules. Goodman hopes that the situation will stabilize by summer 2021 so that filming can continue under normal conditions.

The confirmation that director Eli Roth will adapt Borderlands caused chaos and confusion when announced. Roth is best known for horror films like Hostel, Cabin Fever, or Knock Knock.
Eli Roth stated that he wants to implement his own visions and ideas. Randy Pitchford from Borderlands developer Gearbox is supposed to assist him in this. Roth expressed the following regarding the Borderlands film:

The Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett has been honored with over 150 international film and festival awards. Among others, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2005 for her role as Katharine Hepburn in the film Aviator and in 2014 for Best Actress in Woody Allen’s film Blue Jasmine.
Who is Lilith? Lilith belongs to the “Siren” class in Borderlands. She hails from the planet Dionysus and is one of the six Sirens who possess incredible powers. She excels in close combat and brings down her opponents using elemental powers.

Will Kevin Hart play Roland?
According to several sources, US comedian Kevin Hart has been cast. On imdb.com, he is already listed as an actor who will play Roland.
Kevin Hart began his career in 2000 when he won several comedy competitions and was subsequently cast in Scary Movie 3 and 4. Most recently, he had a role in Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019.
Currently, there is no confirmation that Kevin Hart will actually appear in the Borderlands film.
Who is Roland? Roland belongs to the soldier class in Borderlands. He comes from the planet Promethea and was part of the Crimson Lance, a private elite unit of the Atlas Corporation. He is skilled with all weapons but prefers shotguns and assault rifles. Roland also has a Scorpio Turret that provides him with the necessary backup in heated battles.
Screenplay, plot and more information
It is still only known that Craig Mazin is writing the script for the Borderlands film. Eli Roth has already confirmed that it will not be a 1:1 adaptation of the source material. While the dark humor and exaggerated violence should play a role, it should not be tasteless. In summer 2019, an alleged summary of the story already surfaced. In this, Lilith is supposed to be the heroine, although other well-known faces such as Claptrap are expected to appear:
“The film starts with Lilith in the Atlas Corporation’s space prison. There she gets the chance to earn her freedom if she can rescue Tiny Tina, the daughter of the Atlas CEO, on the planet Pandora. The mission takes an unexpected turn when it becomes clear that the little girl is the key to unlocking a valuable alien vault that Atlas wants for itself.”
