A few resourceful players have created a DPS ranking of the weapons that currently melt bosses in Destiny 2 the fastest. The current best weapon can be obtained from the ongoing Iron Banner!
The question of the best weapons in Destiny 2 is often asked, but cannot be answered definitively. Too many parameters play a role, such as
- the current weapon balancing
- specific rolls of a weapon
- the buffs and bonuses used
So there is no “Best Weapon”. However, one can determine a “best weapon” if the conditions are clearly defined. For instance, “Which weapon is best suited to kill a boss under ideal raid conditions with all buffs?”.
In the current meta of Destiny 2, some weapons, particularly one weapon class, are emerging that take down bosses exceptionally quickly. This was found out by players Aoterra, LucasDestiny3, and Silent Storm through elaborate calculations and tests.
The current best boss killers have been determined: To determine the highest damage output, the three players considered various factors such as the Warlock Well, the Tractor Cannon, the Titan’s Hammer Strike, and other options that increase the damage dealt.
In summary, it can be said: You should always carry a grenade launcher with you. This weapon class is currently unmatched when it comes to pure DPS (damage per second).
These are currently the best DPS monsters: This also reflects the list of best weapons published by Aoterra and colleagues:
- Anarchy and the Summit (in combination) – 2.15 million damage (without buffs) in a boss phase
- Grenade Launcher with 150 shots per minute and the Perk Precision Grenades deal 2.095 million damage without buffs
- Prospector – 1.987 million damage
- Wendigo – 1.784 million damage
- The Summit – 1.687 million damage
- Bad Omen – 1.477 million damage
- One Thousand Voices – 1.295 million damage
- Sleeper Simulant – 1.261 million damage
- Perfected Outbreak (only one player shoots) – 844,000 damage
What does this list indicate? In first place is the combination of Anarchy and Summit. Since we are talking about two weapons here, the ranking is not really significant.
The Prospector is mutating into the likely best exotic weapon in the current meta when it comes to pure damage.
With Bad Omen, a rocket launcher still manages to make it onto the list, which particularly benefits from its Void element in conjunction with the Tractor Cannon.
The fact that a primary weapon, the Perfected Outbreak, has made it into the top 10 is extremely notable. However, the weapon was tested with the restriction that only one player shot at the boss.
According to Aoterra, the DPS only increases marginally when multiple players shoot at the boss with the Outbreak. The additional nanites do not close the gap with the ninth-placed Sleeper Simulant.
Grenade launchers are probably the best boss slayers in Destiny 2: If you have a grenade launcher with a fire rate of 150 shots per minute and the perk Precision Grenades, you are always at the forefront when it comes to boss damage. The damage bonus from direct hits results in absurd hit numbers.
Taking different buffs into account makes the numbers even more impressive and also shows a candidate for what is likely the best weapon in the game:
What is the Swarm of the Raven? The legendary grenade launcher is of the Void element and thus works exceptionally well with the buff from the Tractor Cannon, which increases the damage output of the Void element by 50%.

How to get the perfect Swarm of the Raven faster: To obtain the Swarm of the Raven, you need to open Iron Banner packages. Make sure that the Iron Banner packages cannot include armor. You achieve this by completing the tasks for the armor only after you have obtained your Swarm of the Raven.
Only after completing these specific tasks do the armors enter the loot pool of the reward packages, thus decreasing your chances of getting a perfect Swarm of the Raven
What is the perfect Swarm of the Raven? To obtain the perfect boss-killing machine (=God Roll), you should focus on the following perks:
- Hard Shots – Increases projectile speed
- Precision Grenades – Headshots deal more damage
- Prepared for Anything – Increased ammunition reserves and bonuses when crouching
- Quick Draw – The weapon is prepared faster
The most important are the Precision Grenades; without this perk, you will not achieve the high damage numbers from the table above. The other perks are helpful but not “must-have”.
