EVE Online – PC

EVE Online is perhaps one of the games that instantly comes to mind when thinking of the term space MMO. The game, released in 2003, focuses on politics, trade, and combat.
The story of the game revolves around a time when there is a shortage of resources on Earth, which is mitigated by the development of new space travel technologies and travel into space. When a new wormhole was discovered, named “EVE,” millions of settlers set out to explore the new area “New Eden.”
But the wormhole soon collapsed and cut off the new land from Earth’s sphere of influence. Quickly, humanity’s knowledge faded and over time, four different nations emerged in the new world, rediscovering space travel and wanting to claim New Eden for themselves.
Conflicts frequently arise between the four empires, which sometimes culminate in war. Additionally, there are countless organizations within the various nations, so politics play a significant role in the MMO.

EVE Online is for you if you are into The Expanse
The Expanse is loosely based on the eponymous book series and currently consists of two seasons, which can be watched on the streaming service Netflix in Germany. In March 2017, it was announced that the series would be extended for a third season.
The series is set in the 23rd century and focuses heavily on political tensions. Earth is overpopulated, and people suffer from rising sea levels. Moreover, there is almost no work, and large cities consist mainly of slums and shantytowns.
Furthermore, humanity has settled the solar system, including the Moon and Mars. In addition, there are scattered colonies and numerous space stations.
While the United Nations rule over Earth, the Moon, and several stations, Mars has declared independence. A third faction forms the militant resistance group Outer Planets Alliance, which opposes Earth and Mars.
Why is EVE Online like The Expanse?
EVE Online and the series The Expanse each thrive on the various conflicts that unfold in political friction. While The Expanse foregrounds the respective interests of the three strongest powers – Earth, Mars, and the Resistance – the conflicts in EVE are largely in the players’ hands.
Although the struggles of the four nations still simmer in the background, it is between the numerous player alliances that things really get going. One frequently reads about infiltrations and plans that have been brewing for years just to topple a rival alliance.
In contrast, The Expanse also tells of the human side of the conflict between the three parties. Both Earth and Mars depend on resources from an asteroid belt that are mined by the so-called “Belters.” The work is carried out under poor working and living conditions, and many Belters already show physical deformities due to the gravity conditions.
However, fans of EVE Online and The Expanse apparently share the same sense of humor.
