In October, not only is the new expansion Shadowkeep coming to players of Destiny 2. The base game of the shooter will be free and Free-to-Play. Some current players have now called on others to take the newcomers under their wings. However, other Guardians have darker intentions: They have declared the blueberry harvest.
What are these new Guardians? On October 1, the new expansion for Destiny 2, Shadowkeep will be released. At the same time, the base game and Year 1 content will be free under the name “Destiny 2 New Light”, meaning it will be free to play.
Players assume that the transition of the base game will attract some new Guardians. Additionally, Destiny 2 is switching from Battle.net to Steam on PC and will be one of the launch games for Google’s Stadia, which could bring even more interested players.

What are the players’ plans? Some of the existing players are already excited that Destiny 2, with the Free-to-Play transition, will likely get fresh blood in the form of new Guardians. User SoleFool18 recently created a post in the Destiny subreddit, urging his fellow players to take the new “kindergarten Guardians” under their wings in October and protect them with everything our arsenal has to offer.
“Kindergarten Guardian” is a play on the English word for kindergarten, indicating that the new players are “noobs” who need to be protected.
While many Guardians agreed with him, others had more diabolical plans: They want the new players to prove themselves first, just as the “old” Guardians did with Destiny 1 or at the beginning of Destiny 2.

Others gleefully anticipate that the “noobs” will make PvP fun again. They boast that in October, “blueberries” will be harvested. They want to farm the newcomers in PvP and earn a top weapon or two in the process.
Destiny players refer to Guardians who do not belong to their fireteam as blueberries. These are indicated by a blue bar (or a blue dot on the radar) instead of a green one like other party members.
In response, some Guardians argued that the Shadowkeep expansion might come with a booster that brings new players directly to the maximum level. This was the case with the expansions of Destiny 1 and also with Forsaken. Current players might no longer be able to immediately assess who is a “noob” and who is not.

How will Destiny 2 be Free-to-Play? The free content includes among others:
- The base game with the campaign against Ghaul and the Leviathan raid
- The first DLC Curse of Osiris
- The second DLC Warmind
In addition, new players should also be able to visit the other locations of Destiny 2, play every coop strike, and participate in every PvP activity. New Guardians will also be able to play Gambit, the PvPvE mode that came with Forsaken.
However, there will also be restrictions, although these are not entirely clear yet. New players will be able to purchase the individual content they are interested in.
What do you think? Will you guide and protect the new players in October, or do you believe they are fair game?
