How do we arrive at the most popular weapons? Before the current Season 7 in Destiny 2, we wanted to know from you in a survey which exotic weapons you prefer to play.
Many of you saw the survey and many participated: Over 2,800 readers answered the individual questions about the most popular weapons.
Why the survey? With Season 7, not only new content came to Destiny 2, but also some significant nerfs. Particularly, some popular exotic weapons were affected by the nerfs. Players took to the barricades and dubbed the new patch as the “Go Slow” update.
With the survey, we wanted to know which exotic weapons you prefer to play and how much you are affected by the nerfs.

What does the survey show? Before Season 7, you actually carried many of the exotic weapons that were hit with the nerf hammer in the Season of Opulence.
For example, the Whisper of the Worm now draws its ammo from reserves instead of generating it from thin air, and the damage from Sleeper Simulant’s ricochet has been reduced against bosses. Even the Pikass, your favorite hand cannon, was considered too strong by Bungie and was nerfed.
The exotic hand cannon Sturm was significantly buffed at the beginning of Season 7 along with its partner Drang. And rightly so! Because the dynamic duo seems to be going completely unnoticed by you. Only 25 brave Guardians cast their vote for Sturm in our survey.
Interestingly, many of the weapons that experienced a nerf with Season 7 were still ranked with a large gap behind the most popular weapons. Will this still be the case after the changes?
