In Pokémon GO you can now catch 485 Pokémon. Some of these Pokémon have special traits that make them particularly rare. We will show you the rarest ones.
What kind of Pokémon are these? If you enjoy playing Pokémon GO, you are also familiar with the numerous bugs in the game. Sometimes these errors also affected Pokémon, giving them special traits.
There are Pokémon that could learn an attack for just a few minutes, or that appeared in their shiny form for only a very short time.
The 6 Rarest Pokémon in the Game
To give you a little taste of the upcoming Pokémon, here are 2 Pokémon that are already very rare, but not yet comparable to the glitched Pokémon.
Letter “Q” from Unown: This letter is probably the hardest to get in Pokémon GO. It has been hardly seen at any event, and Unown rarely appears in the wild. However, this letter is theoretically always available, so it’s not quite that rare.
Shiny Pichu with Party Hat: This Shiny was considered the rarest Shiny in the game. After all, the Pichu with the party hat was only available for 2 days during a special event. During this time, you had to be lucky to hatch the shiny form of Pichu.
These two Pokémon are already very rare, but now follow much rarer versions of Pokémon.
Rank 6: Blaziken with Stone Edge
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Blaziken itself is not a rare Pokémon. Recently, there was a Community Day with Torchic. The special feature here is the attack.
This is how this Pokémon was available: When the 3rd generation was released, the starter families came into play. For a period of about 20 hours, Blaziken could learn the attack Stone Edge during its evolution.
Niantic probably did not want Blaziken to have this attack. They removed this move the very same day. Anyone who evolved Blaziken right then may have received the Fire Pokémon with Stone Edge.
Rank 5: A Lucky Pokémon with Bad IVs
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Usually, a Lucky Pokémon has good IVs. However, there is also an exception where these Pokémon could have bad IVs.
This is how this Pokémon was available: When Lucky Pokémon were introduced in the summer of 2018, there were Lucky Pokémon without good IVs for about 2 hours.
If you traded Pokémon diligently at the beginning of this feature, you could obtain a Lucky Pokémon with stats below 10/10/10. Nowadays, every Lucky Pokémon has at least a 12 in each stat.

Rank 4: Lucky Deoxys
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Normally, mysterious Pokémon like Deoxys cannot be traded. However, there are some players who own Deoxys as a Lucky Pokémon, meaning it has indeed been traded.
This is how this Pokémon was available: Due to a bug, Deoxys could be traded for about an hour. Most players only reported this bug after it had already been fixed. Hardly anyone took advantage of this opportunity.

If you actually traded a Deoxys during this short time and it became a Lucky Pokémon, then you have one of the rarest Pokémon in the game.
Rank 3: Gastrodon with Earthquake
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Normally, Gastrodon cannot learn Earthquake, but only the Ground-type move Mud Bomb. However, there was a short time when it could still learn this move.

This is how this Pokémon was available: Due to a mistake, Niantic allowed Shelmet to spawn worldwide for exactly 12 minutes. Just as suddenly as the spawns appeared, they disappeared.
Anyone who evolved Shelmet into Gastrodon during these 12 minutes was able to obtain the Pokémon with the move Earthquake. Very few players likely did this, as no one expected that Shelmet would disappear after just 12 minutes.
Rank 2: Ninjask with Bite
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Just like Gastrodon, Ninjask also has a move that it could only learn for a short time. It can no longer learn the move Bite.
This is how this Pokémon was available: Ninjask was introduced as a research breakthrough in November. Right at the beginning of its release there was an error causing some players to receive a Zapdos instead of a Ninjask.
During this error, some players received Ninjask with the move Bite. This move, just like the Zapdos glitch, was only available in the game for a few minutes. You needed to have your research breakthrough at the right time and then catch a Ninjask with Bite.
Rank 1: Shiny Pikachu with Detective Hat
This is what makes the Pokémon special: Normally, during the “Detective Pikachu” movie event you could only get the normal form of Pikachu with the Detective Hat. However, some players now own the shiny form.
This is how this Pokémon was available: When the movie event ended, there was about 1-2 minutes to encounter such a Pikachu. To do this, you had to take a photobomb of this Pikachu just before the event ended and then catch the Pikachu after the event ended.
You also had to be lucky enough for this Pikachu to become shiny. The chance for this is 1 in 450. So far, there are only two known sightings of this rare shiny worldwide.
