5. Total Recall (1990)
With 126 votes and thus 6% of the votes, Total Recall makes it to the Top 5 in the MeinMMO ranking.
In it, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the construction worker Douglas Quaid, who leads a quiet life with his wife Lori in the year 2084. However, chaos ensues after the insertion of an artificial vacation memory goes wrong.
The film is particularly convincing due to its visual effects, such as the depiction of the futuristic Mars, which is portrayed as a desolate desert landscape completely bathed in red, while also showcasing the advanced technology of the colony.
However, the action scenes and somewhat bizarre situations the audience is thrown into are also celebrated by many. One MeinMMO user commented:
The better film is certainly “Terminator 2,” but for me, his best is “Total Recall.” So many memorable scenes, whether it’s his eyes almost bulging out, losing his (female) head, driving a taxi driver insane, wrapping a wet towel around his head, or making a psychologist sweat, yeah, I love it.

4. Terminator (1984)
10% of all votes, equating to 204 votes, received Terminator. Thus, the first part and huge success hit by director James Cameron lands in 4th place in the community ranking.
In it, Arnold Schwarzenegger travels back in time as the Terminator to kill Sarah Connor and thus grant the intelligent machines victory over humanity in 2029.
Many enjoy the exciting plot of the film, which revolves around futuristic artificial intelligence and the concept of a time paradox.
If Sarah Connor, the mother of the resistance leader, is killed in the past, the resistance in the future would be crushed, according to the plan of the evil machines.
But above all, Arnold Schwarzenegger shines in arguably the most iconic role of his career. With his machine-like, emotionless expression, the chrome skeleton, or catchphrases like “I’ll be back,” the character remains etched in the minds of many movie fans to this day.

Clearly. Terminator, because it perfectly reflected the fear of machines and/or surveillance for that time. The look of the Terminator with half-destroyed skin on its face. Symbolic character. And for me, one of the last memories of our “village cinema” in my then home town (now the cinema has been demolished).
Yes, back then people still went to the cinema. The ticket seller in the box was also the ticket tearer at the entrance door 5 minutes before the film started. Exclusively wooden hard chairs, capacity about 100-150 visitors max, Warncke ice cream and a cola machine in the foyer, and you could smoke while watching the film.
T2 was naturally a milestone in digital film entertainment and technically upped the ante. And with Twins or Last Action Hero, I was honestly amazed that Arnie could also be funny.
By the way, I am still glad that I watched all the films in the German dubbed version; the Austrian accent in the original (i.e., English) is unfortunately acoustic torture for me…
