Update June 28, 2021: As some rare skins have returned to the item shop and are therefore no longer among the rarest skins, we have revised and updated the list. The following skins are now considered the rarest in Fortnite in 2021.
This is how we selected them: In our list of the rarest skins from Fortnite, we only included skins from the shop. Every skin from a past Battle Pass is unique and no longer available.
Recurring event skins that return at Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and so on have also been excluded, as they have a higher probability of returning to the shop.
The 17 Rarest Skins from the Fortnite Item Shop
We have listed the following skins in the order in which they last appeared. We are thus working our way to the rarest skin.
These are the true “OG” skins that haven’t been in the shop for a long time. For the release dates, we have relied on the fnbr.co page, which lists all the skins.
How can you get the skins? The skins presented here may eventually be available again in the shop. There are no other legal methods to obtain these skins.
17th Place: Ranger
What kind of skin is this? This skin is a male skin that wears a simple yellow outfit. However, since it is basically just a default skin from Chapter 1, with only the outfit being changed, the skin costs only 800 V-Bucks.
When was it last available? Ranger was last seen in the item shop on November 25, 2019.
16th Place: Tracker
What kind of skin is this? This skin is also a male skin who wears a simple yellow outfit. However, since it is basically just a default skin from Chapter 1 with only the outfit changed, it costs only 800 V-Bucks.
When was it last available? The Tracker skin last appeared in the item shop on November 20, 2019.
15th Place: Dominator
What kind of skin is this? Dominator is a female skin with a gray/red outfit. This skin also strongly resembles the default skins from Chapter 1, but the outfit features different colors.
The skin is quite simple and costs only 800 V-Bucks.
When was it last available? Dominator was last seen in the item shop on November 8, 2019.
14th Place: Dazzle
What kind of skin is this? Dazzle is a female skin that wears a sporty outfit. With her headband, she is ready to face the battle while not looking completely worn out.
This is a rare skin that costs 1,200 V-Bucks.

13th Place: Aerobic Assassin
What kind of skin is this? Aerobic Assassin is a female skin that wears a sporty 80s outfit. The skin is a fun change and is especially cool for those who want to remember the “good old times”.
This colorful skin was initially available for 1,500 V-Bucks.

12th Place: Grill Sergeant
What kind of skin is this? Here you see the grilling master himself. With his outfit, he is ready to work in any restaurant. The skin is unusual and costs 800 V-Bucks.

11th Place: Sun Tan Specialist
What kind of skin is this? This skin is a lifeguard. With his tank top, shorts, and sunscreen on his nose, he is perfectly equipped for summer. The price for this skin is 1,500 V-Bucks.

10th Place: Infiltrator

7th Place: Backbone

6th Place: Hyperion

5th Place: Special Forces
What kind of skin is this? The special forces skin is dressed entirely in black and ready for battle. He reminds of the early days of Fortnite when skins looked quite simple. For this skin, you had to pay 1,200 V-Bucks.
When was it last available? The skin was last spotted in the item shop on January 24, 2019.
4th Place: Hacivat
What kind of skin is this? Hacivat is a special skin because it is based on a Turkish main character from a shadow play.
His outfit has also been adapted accordingly. He wears a green nomad suit. This is an epic skin that costs 1,500 V-Bucks.

3rd Place: Rogue Agent
What kind of skin is this? This was the 1st starter pack that you could buy in Fortnite. The skin itself resembles a Halo character more. The starter pack cost 4.99 Euros.
When was it last available? The starter pack was last available for purchase on September 15, 2018.
2nd Place: Codename E.L.F
What kind of skin is this? The cheerful Christmas elf with a codename perfectly fits the festive time in Fortnite. But anyone who has this skin in their locker has a real gift. The original skin cost 1,200 V-Bucks.
When was it last available? Although there is now a more current, minty version of the skin, the original Codename E.L.F was last seen in the item shop on January 31, 2018.
1st Place: Purple Skull Trooper
What kind of skin is this? The Skull Trooper skin is quite well-known. The skeleton has appeared several times in the item shop.
However, only players who purchased the skin in Season 1 have the purple variant. They had to spend 1,500 V-Bucks for it.
The rarest skin was actually the Recon Expert for a long time. But then it had a surprising appearance in the item shop of Fortnite after 920 days.
