These new expansions already occurred in 2022
2022 is not only a year for new MMORPGs but has also already brought some expansions and major updates for existing games.
Guild Wars 2 – End of Dragons
What did the expansion bring? The new expansion End of Dragons for Guild Wars 2 takes you to the continent of Cantha. This area has an Asian influence and impresses with some beautiful locations. Especially fans of the first part will enjoy it, as they are already familiar with the continent and will encounter many Easter eggs.
Besides that, the expansion offers:
- New story content related to the fight against the elder dragons
- New elite specializations for all classes
- A new 2-player mount
- Fishing and seafaring
- A new guild hall
- Jade Bots as new companions
- New assault missions, which will also receive challenge modes for higher difficulty after the release
- New legendary weapons
How is it received? Very well. The initial reactions praise especially the story, the new assault missions, the visuals of the areas, and the final meta-event. However, the new elite specializations receive criticism. More on this can be found here:
Star Wars The Old Republic – Legacy of the Sith
What did the expansion bring? The new expansion Legacy of the Sith focused on many revisions and a new story. However, the scope of it was a bit small:
- The max level is raised from 75 to 80
- New story content, including on the planet Manaan
- The new flashpoint “Ruins of a Sith Fortress”
- A revision of drops to ensure that randomness is nearly entirely eliminated
- The introduction of legendary gear
- A revision of the combat styles of the classes
- The operation R-4 anomaly, which will be released shortly after the launch of the expansion with patch 7.1
- New events and updates that are to follow after the launch of the expansion throughout the year
How is it received? Not so well. There is a lot of criticism because the story only occupies a brief three hours, and some of the revisions are not viewed positively. You can learn more about this in my first look report:
ESO High Isle
What did the expansion bring? High Isle, like previous expansions, focused on new content appearing according to the usual pattern. It brings:
- A new area in the Systres Archipelago with High Isle and Amenos, where you can expect new volcanic vents as world events
- A new story that is supposed to be centered around intrigues. The scope is supposed to be about 30 hours long
- The new collectible card game “Tales of Glory”
- The new trial “Grim Sail Reef” for 12 players
- Two new companions that expand the system from Blackwood
- Improvements to gameplay systems over the year
How is it received? Quite well. Especially the graphics, the dungeons in the open world, and the story are praised. The collectible card game is seen more as a gimmick than a genuine highlight. Still, the overall sentiment is positive:
Big release with the MMORPG ESO annoys with offline servers but enchants with graphics
