What kind of game is this? Mist Legacy is a free2play MMORPG played in topdown perspective and was released in Early Access on Steam in October 2021. You will encounter turn-based battles, where you always fight with three characters each. These can either be real players or NPCs, as in Guild Wars 1.
However, Mist Legacy is an “Old School” game. You search in vain for modern elements like jumping, dodging, climbing, or the like.
Particularly noteworthy is the game world, as you do not navigate through an open world but have a map in front of you, where you select points you want to reach. These can be quest places, enemies, or other important locations.
Otherwise, the game offers:
- A character editor with various settings
- A story that guides you through the MMORPG
- It does not use classes and instead lets you choose from various weapons and abilities
- Areas with effects so that you receive different bonuses when you are in cities, forests, or other weather conditions
- Various PvE content such as dungeons and bosses
- A housing system
How has it been since the release? Mist Legacy managed to attract just over 1,000 concurrent players at launch on Steam. Since September, the numbers have been steadily declining. However, on November 6, there were still 291 players online concurrently. With 78% positive reviews, it is also doing well.
The developers regularly post new roadmaps and have already released a Halloween event. They seem satisfied with the current state.
Who is it interesting for? Mist Legacy appeals to players who want an “Old School” experience and do not need an open world to immerse themselves in a fantasy world. Graphically, the MMORPG offers very little, but it is supposed to become complex in combat systems in the endgame and offer many grinding opportunities.
