Mortal Online 2
Setting: Medieval | Developer: Star Vault | Platform: PC | Release Date: January 25, 2022 | Model: Buy2Play + Subscription
What kind of game is this? Mortal Online 2 is a sandbox MMORPG with a subscription model and a strong focus on PvP. You can set out to explore the world, build a house, and even establish your own empire. However, there is a constant risk of being killed by other players.
A highlight of the MMORPG is the action combat system, reminiscent of For Honor. You also determine the direction during an attack or block. If an attack comes from the right and you block left, the blow still hits you with full force. This requires a lot of practice.
Mortal Online 2 offers you the following content:
- Melee and ranged combat and mounted fighting
- A detailed crafting system
- Free trading between players
- A completely open game world
The game also impresses with its beautiful graphics and claims to be particularly “immersive”. That’s why it also uses the first-person perspective.
What is special about it? Mortal Online relies on full loot. When you die, you lose all your equipment. However, the equipment is not that important; instead, personal skill is paramount, similar to Albion Online.
Moreover, players who kill others without provocation will be labeled as murderers. This has disadvantages, as at a certain point, the guards of towns will attack you.
Another special feature is the payment model. The MMORPG uses a Buy2Play model and also requires a monthly subscription. Thus, it has a high entry barrier for an indie MMORPG.
You can get a first impression of the game with this video from TheLazyPeon:
How has it been since the release? Mortal Online 2 made a strong start for the niche it seeks to occupy. At one point, there were 9,657 players online concurrently.
This large number of players surprised the developers, as there were server problems and long queues. There was even a server rollback that reset the entire MMORPG by 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Mortal Online has settled at around 1,300 concurrent players at peak and has no more queues.
Who is it interesting for? Mortal Online 2 is aimed at players who enjoy sandbox and PvP. If you can engage in a guild and enjoy theorycrafting, you should definitely take a look at the PvP MMORPG. Because it offers a good combat system, solid graphics, and numerous mechanics that are very in-depth.
However, the game is not for fans of classic MMORPGs with a hero story, linear quests, and traditional raids. I have summarized my experiences from the beta in an article:
I have been playing MMORPGs for 15 years: In none have I died as often as in Mortal Online 2
