What is New World? New World is a sandbox MMO. You reach the mysterious island of Aeternum, where Azoth, a mystical material, is located.
On the island, you will encounter wild beasts, the hostile NPC faction Corrupted, which has come into contact with Azoth, as well as hostile players that you can combat in optional PvP.
New World offers:
- 3 playable factions
- A classless system where your armor and weapons dictate your playstyle
- Quests and events in the open world
- A crafting system that is important since you need to craft your gear yourself and can trade with others
- A housing system
- Multiple PvP modes, including wars in 50v50
- 6 different dungeons at launch.
How has it performed since release? New World started off very strongly on Steam. In the first weekend after release, nearly a million concurrent players logged in. This temporarily placed it at number 2 in the charts, making it one of the top 5 most played games on Steam.
However, there were criticisms regarding excessively long queue times, which have largely dissipated now. However, there are now other challenges:
- Players are banned if they are reported too often, which is especially exploited during wars
- The economy is currently facing a collapse
- Server transfers led to a gold exploit and were therefore disabled again

Nevertheless, New World currently ranks among the most popular MMORPGs in the West and still maintains good numbers.
