Crowfall
Setting: Fantasy | Developer: Artcraft Entertainment | Platform: PC | Release Date: July 6, 2021 | Model: Buy2Play
What kind of game is this? After over 6 years in development, the crowdfunding MMORPG Crowfall has finally been released. It deviates significantly from traditional MMORPGs and offers various campaigns instead of an open, persistent world.
These campaigns run for a certain time before they conclude. Players who participated in them carry their earnings into the Eternal Kingdoms, a social realm that mainly focuses on housing, trade, and player interaction.
Crowfall clearly appeals to fans of PvP, as almost all campaigns focus on battles between players. It impresses with timeless graphics and a wide variety of classes and playable races.
A glimpse into the gameplay of Crowfall is provided by this video from the developers:
What makes it special? In addition to the Eternal Kingdoms, there are 3 scenarios in which you can immerse yourself with an avatar:
- God’s Reach is a pure PvE world designed to introduce players to Crowfall.
- The Infected is a PvP world where three factions fight against each other.
- Dregs is a campaign specifically for guild versus guild combat.
- With the HungerDome, a Battle Royale for 60 players has been introduced.
They all undergo a cycle until they are ultimately destroyed. This is supposed to lead to a campaign playing like a season of Game of Thrones and also provides a lot of replay value if the developers make just slight adjustments to the rules.
Another feature of the game is the classes. There are 11 of them, each offering 3 subclasses. In total, you therefore have the choice of 33 classes.
How has it performed since release? The release of Crowfall attracted very little attention. Players waited years for the MMORPG and over time lost interest. Additionally, backers who had already supported the game with money have been playing for years.
Even before the release, Crowfall was criticized for an unfinished combat system, performance issues, and bad UI. Many had therefore expected that the developers would take a little more time before the release.
However, there are now positive voices who had a lot of fun with Crowfall after the release. To play the new MMORPG, you need to purchase a game version for €40.
