The year 2021 is over, and several new and particularly interesting MMORPGs have been released. We at MeinMMO present to you the new games in more detail.
What kind of MMORPGs are these? The games on this list are titles that were released in 2021. However, they must have had a full release or been published in Early Access. Titles in Alpha or Beta have not been included.
The article was created by MMORPG expert Alexander Leitsch, who has already played all of these titles for at least 20 hours.
Wild Terra 2 (Early Access)
Setting: Fantasy | Developer: Juvty Worlds | Platform: PC | Release Date: January 28, 2021 (EA) | Model: Buy2Play
What kind of game is this? Wild Terra 2 is a sandbox MMORPG that focuses on freedom rather than quests and a linear story. Everything revolves around content such as crafting, housing, and PvP against other players.
The game does not offer classes, so during character creation, you can only choose between gender and a few visual features.
It is played in an isometric perspective, where you can move around with WASD or mouse clicks. The developers provide a first look at the game with this gameplay trailer:
What makes it special? Wild Terra 2 is reminiscent of sandbox MMORPGs like Black Desert or the also-in-development Fractured in terms of its core principles. However, there are also some unique features:
- You can build in the open world and thus construct a huge city together with other players
- There are dungeons with interesting end bosses, which is not very common in sandbox games
- The food system is interesting as it ensures that you have a balanced diet with grains, fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables.
How has it performed since release? Wild Terra 2 was released in Early Access on Steam, but could not achieve significant player numbers there. At release, a peak of 1,244 players simultaneously viewed the MMORPG. On average, there were still almost 700 players online in February 2021 (via Steamcharts).
In recent months, however, player numbers have been declining significantly. In the last 30 days, there were on average only 121 players online.
Players rate Wild Terra 2 overall as only 55% positive (from 586 reviews):
- Praise goes to the many freedoms, the crafting system, the dungeons, the community, and the fact that while there is PvP, it is not full loot, meaning you do not lose your equipped gear.
- On the other hand, criticism is aimed at technical issues, high grind, and the fact that there is PvP everywhere.
Anyone wanting to play Wild Terra must currently pay €29.99 on Steam. The full release is stated to be expected by the developers at the end of 2021.
