Rank 2 – Landmark
Developer: Daybreak Games | Platforms: PC | Release: June 10, 2016 | Shutdown: February 2017
What was Landmark? The MMORPG was initially created under the title Everquest Next Landmark as a kind of tool for players to create content for the planned MMORPG Everquest Next. When the development of this game was halted, Landmark was meant to continue as a playground.
The focus was on collecting resources to create buildings. It was a large sandbox. However, the developers had to shut down the title shortly after the official release.
How long did the MMORPG run? The official release took place on June 10, 2016. The end came in February 2017.
Why didn’t the game succeed? The MMORPG’s population left much to be desired, affecting revenue. At that time, Daybreak Games was also in a restructuring phase. Many developers and even company president John Smedley left the company. This upheaval ultimately claimed Landmark.
