Not every MMORPG lasts for many years. Some simply aren’t destined for success. We present to you the 7 MMORPGs that died the quickest.
The selection is based on the release dates of the games and the date when the servers were shut down. We focused on titles that actually experienced an official release. This means early access games are excluded.
Rank 7 – Maple Story 2
Developer: Nexon | Platforms: PC | Release: October 10, 2018 | Shutdown: May 27, 2020
What was MapleStory 2? The successor to the well-known MapleStory aimed to impress with cute 3D graphics, adventures, and plenty of mini-games. You could accept quests, fight monsters, and improve your hero. Additionally, it was also possible to race against other players or build and furnish a house.
The games enjoyed a lot of freedom, for example, in costume design.
How long did the MMORPG run? MapleStory launched very successfully on October 10, 2018. However, players quickly dropped off, leading to its end on May 27, 2020.
Why didn’t the game succeed? MapleStory 2 was plagued by cheaters and gold sellers. They ruined the fun for others, and the developers simply couldn’t get a grip on the problem. As more and more players abandoned the MMORPG, the servers were shut down in 2020.
