At some point, it’s time to say goodbye. Several well-known footballers are ending their careers – and therefore will not be part of FIFA 21 anymore. Who will be missing in the next FIFA installment?
Every year, footballers end their careers, often reflecting on great successes. FIFA 20 is also slowly coming to an end – and it is quite unlikely that we will see these seven players in FIFA 21 again.
Bastian Schweinsteiger
Here is Bastian Schweinsteiger: With Bastian Schweinsteiger, the captain of the 2014 World Cup team ended his career. The midfielder was one of the greats in Germany for many years and influenced the play of FC Bayern Munich and the German national team.
Later, he played for Manchester United and finally for Chicago Fire. In FIFA 20, he received an End-of-an-Era card to honor his career. Therefore, he will probably be missing in FIFA 21.
Claudio Pizarro
Here is Claudio Pizarro: With Claudio Pizarro, one can never be quite sure. The 41-year-old striker has officially ended his career. But who knows, he might still be back on the pitch next season, scoring against players who are not even half his age. However, if it really remains at this retirement, the Peruvian can look back on a glorious career with over 400 appearances in the Bundesliga.
In FIFA 20, he probably did not score too many goals in Ultimate Team – it would actually be time for an End-of-an-Era card. Maybe the Summer Heat Event will bring something?
David Villa
Here is David Villa: The Spanish striker has won everything with the national team. He not only crowned himself as Euro Champion in 2008 and World Champion in 2010 but also won the Champions League and several championships with Barcelona, as well as cup successes.
In FIFA 20, as could be expected, he also received a very strong card at the end of his career.
Iker Casillas
Here is Iker Casillas: Iker Casillas, also Villa’s longtime teammate in goal for the Spanish national team, is retiring. For many years, Casillas was considered the ultimate goalkeeper, winning countless titles with Real Madrid. Now, the goalkeeper legend is also saying goodbye – he will probably not be in FIFA 21 anymore.
Mario Gomez
Here is Mario Gomez: With Mario Gomez, a goalscorer leaves the football scene, who was also controversial. Despite often impressive numbers, Gomez faced criticism, especially in the national team jersey.
He will not be in FIFA 21 – even in FIFA 20, his card was no longer among the best players in the game. But that didn’t stop a fan from building his entire team around the Stuttgart striker.
Daniele de Rossi
Here is Daniele de Rossi: Daniele de Rossi is one of those players who are inextricably linked to a specific club. Starting from youth, de Rossi played for AS Roma, making 614 appearances for the club.
Shortly before his retirement, de Rossi took another step: for half a year, he played for Boca Juniors in Argentina. In January, he then announced the end of his long career – and he will probably not be in FIFA 21 anymore.
In the long term, it is, of course, possible that some of these players will return to FIFA – namely as an Icon card. True legends of the game receive these. In FIFA 21, there are also some candidates who could receive an Icon card.
