Rank 5 – Black Desert Online
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Pearl Abyss | Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One | Release Date: March 3, 2016 | Model: Buy2Play
What is Black Desert? In Black Desert is a sandbox MMORPG that offers you many freedoms. Thus, traditional theme park content, such as quests and a clear storyline, plays a rather secondary role.
Instead, it focuses on:
- The free and player-driven economy
- 11 lifeskills that you can learn and constantly improve
- Building your own network of workers to earn gold
- Farming and leveling equipment
- Housing
- Building a ship that allows you to sail the vast sea.
- PvP in the open world and battles for outposts.
In addition, the highly detailed and complex character editor and the action combat system are often highlighted in Black Desert.
The MMORPG was released first in Korea, and we in the West have now caught up well with the content on PC. In 2019 versions were also released for Xbox One and PS4, but they lag significantly behind the PC version in terms of content.
How many players does Black Desert have on Steam? In the last 30 days, Black Desert averaged 20,041 players per day. At peak times, the MMORPG reached 37,034 simultaneous players.
Black Desert benefited from a free weekend that took place at the end of February. The total player numbers will also be higher, as the MMORPG offers its own client.
What do players say? On Steam, Black Desert has received very good reviews over the last 30 days: 82% of the 1,079 reviews were positive. Nevertheless, opinions are divided:
- Paladin970: “I find BDO great, great graphics, good combat system. It has a lot of content, although I wish it had a bit more, but that’s not too bad. Many complain about the Pay2Win! […]. The RNG system is balanced, and you farm so much silver in a short time that you don’t need real money. […]. Don’t exaggerate, it’s not the end of the world. The game is good, that’s it!
- Sir Issac Newton: “The game probably has one of the best graphics in the MMO sector, but the rest is absolutely not my taste: graphics show, Pay2Win and grinding to the point of blindness.”

Who is Black Desert suitable for? Those who enjoy sandbox MMORPGs, value freedom, and an action-packed combat system should definitely check out Black Desert.
However, you shouldn’t have a problem with PvP and with grinding. Both are abundant in the game.
