Allods Online
Developer: Allods Team | Platform: PC | Release Date: October 21, 2010
What is Allods Online? Allods Online essentially offers a rather classic MMORPG with quests, dungeons, searching for better loot, and lots of fights.
However, the scenario is quite unusual, as the game world is divided into floating islands. You travel these with flying ships. The journeys are very dangerous, leading to battles between ships and gigantic boss monsters.
To steer the ships, you also need a crew, making it important to form groups.
How did the game start? The launch was a bit rocky, as there were items in the game that could be purchased for real money, allowing you to avoid penalties when your hero dies. This was quickly adjusted.
The system with the flying ships and crews was well received, which is why Allods was initially quite successful. This was also due to its visually strong resemblance to WoW, but it offered some interesting new ideas with the ships and unusual races.
What does it look like today? After 10 years since launch, according to Steamcharts, player numbers are at 25, with a peak of 56 in the past 30 days (as of October 12, 2020).
In 2019, the developers attempted to revitalize the MMORPG with a major update. But that did not succeed.
Why did the game fail? Above all, the announcement of Skyforge by the same developer dealt Allods Online a heavy blow. There were constant updates for Skyforge, and fans believed that Allods Online was being sidelined in favor of Skyforge.
In addition, there were repeated accusations of Pay2Win and a high grind required to keep up with the good players.
On the next page, we continue with a Pen&Paper game.
