We have selected 4 RPG hits from the past months and years that you should not miss – as they are currently drastically reduced in price.
The Steam Summer Sale 2019 is back with many stylish offers. Fans of all possible genres will be happy, including friends of a good RPG. This year many games are once again reduced, so it’s hard to know which RPG to start with. We have made a small selection for you and recommend four games that RPG fans should not miss.
A Plague Tale: Innocence
The fight against a mysterious plague and eerie hordes of rats was a surprise hit of the past months. Those who haven’t had the chance to take a closer look at A Plague Tale: Innocence can use the Summer Sale as a perfect excuse.
What is A Plague Tale: Innocence about? The game is set in 1349 France. Due to the outbreak of a strange disease and unnaturally large swarms of rats, the young Amicia is forced to flee with her younger and sickly brother Hugo. Not only must they escape the deadly rats, but they also need to outwit the Inquisition’s pursuers, as they have a special interest in Hugo.
Who is A Plague Tale: Innocence suitable for? Anyone who enjoys a dense storyline with relatable characters and prefers stealth action will find happiness in this plague story. The AI of human opponents is relatively simple, yet the game is never too easy, and sudden threats ensure lasting tension. However, the greatest appeal comes from the characters and their personalities, which players can wonderfully identify with and empathize with.
How much does A Plague Tale: Innocence cost? The game is still quite new, having only been released in May 2019. Therefore, the price is currently “only” reduced by 25% and stands at €33.74. If you want to experience a dark, brutal, and yet heartwarming story, you should grab it. Link to A Plague Tale: Innocence on Steam.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Good, classic RPGs have become rare. So it’s no surprise that a longstanding hit like the Divinity series is still very popular. Especially Original Sin 2 offers classic RPG fans plenty of what they love.
What is Divinity: Original Sin 2 about? Divinity is set in the medieval fantasy world of Rivellon and is plagued by many typical and atypical problems that heroes must solve. Many core concepts of the game resemble a classic pen-and-paper adventure. Quests can be completed in a variety of ways, many NPCs can simply be killed, and more than 200 different abilities must be found, mastered, and combined.
Especially cool: Almost every decision in the game has consequences. Even the choice of character affects how NPCs interact with you – after all, most people are not very inclined to talk to an undead.
Who is Divinity: Original Sin 2 suitable for? Anyone who enjoys pen-and-paper RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, or DSA will feel at home in Divinity. The fights are conducted like in these pen-and-paper games. Tactics and planning are important since issues like limited visibility or “friendly fire” from a powerful fireball can quickly end a fight – or at least provide long laughs in co-op mode.
The complete game can be played alone or in a group of up to 4 players. It is therefore also excellent for long co-op sessions – even in split screen.
How much does Divinity: Original Sin 2 cost? The “Definitive Edition” of Divinity: Original Sin 2 is currently 40% off and costs €26.99. If you want to buy the game and all its predecessors, you can also opt for the “Eternal Edition,” which, however, costs a hefty €53.99. Link to Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Steam.
Vampyr
Vampyr is an action RPG by DONTNOD Entertainment, best known for their dramatic title “Life is Strange.” Vampyr, on the other hand, is significantly darker, more brutal, and more action-oriented, without neglecting exciting characters.
What is Vampyr about? Vampyr is set in London in 1918. You are Dr. Jonathan Reid and have just been turned into a vampire. You must not only ensure that you constantly get enough food in the form of human sacrifices, but also try to heal the city from a rampant disease to help the people survive. These are two goals that do not always align…
Who is Vampyr suitable for? If you enjoy sharp action RPGs with a creepy atmosphere, you will feel at home in Vampyr. The characters are particularly interesting and complex, which should draw RPG fans into the world.
Thanks to four different endings, Vampyr also has solid replay value after the first run. After all, your choices contribute to how the ending plays out.
However, Vampyr has a sometimes quite tough difficulty level with varying strengths of enemies. If this intimidates you, you should reconsider the purchase.
How much does Vampyr cost? Currently, Vampyr is a whopping 60% off and costs €19.99. A fair price for an interesting game with a dense atmosphere. Link to Vampyr on Steam.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey lets players once again step into the role of an assassin.
What is Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey about? Odyssey places the player in ancient Greece, a time filled with conflicts. As usual, the main character is projected into this time period through the “Animus.” There are vast areas in Greece to explore, not only in cities but also at sea – since naval battles have also become an important part of Assassin’s Creed.
Who is Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey suitable for? For fans of the Assassin’s Creed series, Odyssey is likely a blind buy. But even those who haven’t been able to get into the series should take a risk. Odyssey has more RPG elements than its predecessors and feels “bigger and better” in almost every regard. There is greater freedom of choice and even a dialogue system, making it feel more like an RPG than a linear narrative. Of course, the exciting fights with plenty of blood and violence continue to be in the foreground – and they are cool in presentation.
Also exciting: Odyssey has several different endings, allowing choices made to lead to consequences and making replaying more interesting.
How much does Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey cost? Thanks to the Summer Sale, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is 50% off, costing €29.99. The different premium versions of the game are also heavily discounted right now for those interested in additional content, such as more story missions and cosmetic items. Link to Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey on Steam.
