The upcoming AAA mobile MMO Royal Blood does not want to be like all other mobile games. With three unique selling points, the developers at Gamevil want to stand out against the competition. They also explain why Royal Blood has not yet been released in the West.
What exactly is Royal Blood? Royal Blood is a high-gloss AAA MMORPG for mobile devices. The game uses the award-winning Unity engine and is developed by the Korean studio Gamevil. Over 100 developers are solely dedicated to Royal Blood, working hard to make their game competitive against titles like Lineage 2 Revolution. Particularly in the West, they aim to appeal to the player base.
But how do the developers plan to succeed in the West?
Events, Combat System, and Mass PvP as Unique Selling Points
To help Royal Blood stand out against the competition in the mobile MMO space, the developers focus on three unique features.
Feature #1 – The Action Combat System with Skillsets
Mobile MMOs are often known for being mindless grinders that can be played on autopilot. Players focus more on optimizing grinding performance than on actually fighting. This is particularly evident in Lineage 2 Revolution, which we have already referred to as the “MMO Manager” here.
This is how Royal Blood aims to make battles more exciting: There is also an autopilot feature in Royal Blood. However, unlike the competition, players are encouraged to use it only when they are not doing something special. In any case, manual combat control is better. You must actively dodge attacks and aim your skills effectively.
Skillsets add more depth: Additionally, there is an alternative skill set that you can switch at any time during combat. This suddenly gives you a completely new set of abilities, allowing you to fight much more effectively. This is especially important during boss fights in raids or PvP. Moreover, it helps you develop your role in the “Holy Trinity” better. In Royal Blood, it is crucial to have tanks, damage dealers, and support in your team.
Feature #2 – The Dynamic Events
In Royal Blood, there are a number of standard quests that you can complete on the go. However, the highlights of the map are dynamic events that appear regularly. You can then decide whether to participate or continue grinding.
Here are the benefits of the events: Events are usually more challenging and not easily solved on autopilot. Even if you do that, you will only receive top loot if you are among the best participants in the event.
Moreover, these events provide a welcome change from regular questing and a great opportunity for teamwork. You can think of them a bit like the open world events in Guild Wars 2.
Feature #3 – The RvR PvP Battles
Royal Blood features large skirmishes between 70 players in addition to 3vs3 arenas in PvP. Originally, 100vs100 fighters were planned, but the developers reduced that number to 70. They believe this is more manageable.
How do the RvR battles work? The goal of the RvR battles is to become the ruler. However, this is not achieved merely through mindless fighting. Instead, players have two weeks to collect special “Lord Points”. Afterward, the most successful player is crowned ruler. This ties in well with the game’s theme, where you embody a dethroned heir who must reclaim your kingdom.
The Lord Points are earned through battles, but also through careful planning of strategies and politics within the game. So, it’s not just about fighting.
Overall, Royal Blood strongly focuses on a full-fledged MMORPG approach that is primarily known from PC online RPGs.
No Pay2Win Cash Shop Planned
Finally, the developers want to emphasize again that the Cash Shop of Royal Blood only provides time-saving benefits. Everything that can be purchased should also be available in the game for in-game resources.
This is how they plan to avoid Royal Blood being perceived as a Pay2Win game.
