The rarest power weapons of each category in Destiny 2
Power weapons use the rarest ammo in the game, and some of them are really rare. We list 5 categories. The few heavy shotguns are not considered, as they are far from rare.
The rarest machine gun: Inheritor’s Apparition
Why is the weapon so rare? The exotic MG could only be unlocked during the Guardian Games event 2020. It was not enough to be present; you had to earn a ton of Olympic medals.
Is the gun worth it? Yes! In our review, Inheritor’s Apparition scored excellently. The weapon packs a punch and offers a unique protective mechanic, plus the exotic is just fun to use.

The rarest rocket launcher: The Button
Why is the weapon so rare? The Button comes from Season 3 and, like other rare weapons in this article, was earned through the competitive playlist. Only after many stressful battles did Shaxx reveal the rocket launcher.
Only 21,700 PvP enthusiasts have earned this weapon, leading to statements like this: “Does anyone have footage or a review for the rocket launcher The Button?” (via reddit)
Is the gun worth it? Not even close. The Button is a first-rate dust collector. Rare, but useless.
The rarest sword: Throne Splitter
Why is the weapon so rare? Only Titans can equip and obtain this sword. Moreover, it has only been available as a random drop reward after the final boss in the heroic Menagerie since Season 7. Hunters and Warlocks also receive their respective melee weapon here, but they are not quite as rare.
Is the stick worth it? Titans can confidently go for this slow but powerful sword. Additionally, it fits that swords recently received a major overhaul, and we now recommend always carrying a blade weapon:
The rarest grenade launcher: The Eternal Truth
Why is the weapon so rare? The grenade launcher comes from Season 3 and was randomly earned from Commander Zavala through ranking up (this is the last weapon from this period in the article, promised). Once again, the reason for its rarity is limited availability.
Additionally, all grenade launchers were quite weak in the early days of Destiny 2. Hardly any guardian used this class at that time, so no one wanted to grind for the weapon back then.
Is the gun worth it? Like at the time of its release, The Eternal Truth is also not recommended today. In every regard, the grenade launcher falls short compared to creative exotic counterparts like Anarchy or the top weapon Wendigo.
The rarest linear fusion rifle: Komodo-4FR
Why is the weapon so rare? The Komodo is a ritual weapon from Season 9. To get the gun, guardians need to prove themselves in a Crucible quest.
This quest mainly requires kills with other linear fusion rifles. This is quite arduous, as the rare power ammo is required for this – unless you possess the exotic Arbalest.
Is the gun worth it? We can confidently recommend the Komodo to lovers of linear fusion rifles. However, as the weapon class has been underrepresented for a long time, there likely won’t be too many guardians.
As you can see, the rarity of many of the weapons listed here is due to the fact that they can no longer be obtained. Many of the listed rarities weren’t the best even at their release, making them not worth a place in some guardians’ inventory.
