Place 3 – Destiny 2
Genre: Shooter | Developer: Bungie | Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia | Release Date: September 6, 2017| Model: Buy2Play
What is Destiny 2? The loot shooter from Bungie is the direct sequel to Destiny. In it, you play a powerful hero known as a Guardian, tasked with protecting the world from dangers.
Destiny 2 places a lot of emphasis on:
- Great gunplay
- Strikes and raids as group content
- Seasonal events through new seasons – like the Dawning event 2020
- The character progression including leveling your artifact and exotic weapons
- Various PvP content, including a PvEvP mode
Destiny 2 can be played for free in its base version, but requires expansions and various seasons for the complete experience. In 2020, the new and third expansion Beyond Light was released.
How many players does Destiny 2 have on Steam: In the last 30 days, Destiny 2 had an average of 42,904 players. Concurrently, 79,290 players used the MMO at its peak.
This puts the title in a notable downward trend. Most recently, Destiny 2 managed to jump to first place on the list due to the new “Beyond Light” expansion. January 2021 was so far the worst month ever on Steam.
However, the new Season 13 promises some interesting content that could lead to a rebound.
What do players say? Along with the declining player numbers, ratings have also dropped. In the last 30 days, there were 9,342 reviews, of which only 74 % were positive. However, overall the game has received 86 % positive ratings since release.
- kepishangan: “Good loot shooter to suppress boredom. A bit grindy for loot, and quests repeat themselves.”
- IllusiveMan: “Destiny 2 is a fun game; sometimes it feels like an RPG, although it’s actually an MMO. It offers a cool mix, and I love playing it, especially with my friends. I’ve been playing Destiny since it originally came out on console and only recently switched to PC.”

For whom is Destiny 2 suitable? If you want to experience a loot shooter with good gameplay and an exciting story, you should definitely check out Destiny 2. Since it is free in its base version, you have nothing to lose.
For veterans, however, not much new is happening currently, aside from PvP, where they can now re-engage more.
