Place 6 – DayZ
Genre: Survival | Developer: Bohemia Interactive | Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One | Release Date: December 13, 2018 (previously in EA) | Model: Buy2Play
What is DayZ? The survival and horror game DayZ originated from an ArmA 2 mod and spent almost 5 years in early access. Players start randomly on a map where all residents have turned into zombies due to an unknown illness.
The game is an open-world sandbox, where your only real goal is to survive. How you manage that is up to you. You can survive in the wild, scavenge the remaining resources from ghost towns, or rob other players.
DayZ received a major update in December 2019 with the second new map Livonia and the first DLC ever. The update attracted heaps of new players.
How many players does DayZ have on Steam: In the last 30 days, an average of 25,452 players played DayZ. At peak, 42,774 users visited the survival game at the same time.
What do players say? In the last 30 days, the survival MMO received 3,523 reviews. 85 % of them are positive. The fundamental gameplay is praised, while criticism is directed at hackers and cheaters:
- Nate2994: “The whole player experience can be quite merciless. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I just feel that playing DayZ and learning the game takes a lot of time.”
- FATHER MAYHEM: “I took a bigger break after about 20 hours of play because I didn’t like the experience. From version 0.63 to 1.10. But now the game blows me away. It’s fantastic, I hope they improve the graphics and further expand the existing mechanics.”
For whom is DayZ suitable? If you enjoy survival games and appreciate the zombie scenario, you should definitely check out DayZ. In this game, dying also means losing all your items, so always be aware of that.
If you also want more building options in your game, you should check out Rust, a survival game that we will introduce in more detail later in the list.
