Place 8 – The Elder Scrolls Online
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Zenimax Online| Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia | Release Date: April 4, 2014 | Model: Buy2Play
What is ESO? The Elder Scrolls Online is not a classic MMORPG. It places great emphasis on single-player content, allowing you to have fun in the world of Tamriel with any level. This way, newcomers can start directly with current content or explore the entire world at their leisure.
ESO offers:
- Regular updates, at least one each quarter
- A truly vast game world
- Fully voiced quests and exciting stories
- Diverse dungeons
- Server vs server PvP
To play, you only need an expansion or the base game Tamriel Unlimited. It is currently advisable to start directly with the new Blackwood expansion. You can buy it now, even though it won’t be released until June 2021. However, you will get access to the game and all expansions immediately.
You only need to additionally purchase smaller DLCs or subscribe to an ESO+ membership.
How many players does ESO have on Steam: The MMORPG had 18,840 players in the last 30 days. At peak, 33,069 players visited ESO.
What do players say? Player reviews have been very positive in the last 30 days. Out of 1,700 reviews, 87 % were positive. However, the paid content and current technical issues are criticized:
- KeezoD: “Never thought it would be possible since I am not a fan of MMO games, but it turns out to be one of my favorite games and will probably remain that way for a while because there is so much to do.”
- Sir Searls: “It’s a lot of fun, especially for fans of The Elder Scrolls like me, because you can go almost anywhere in Tamriel. But the community is kind of toxic, like everyone says: ‘Buy this, buy that’ which is annoying. But overall it’s a great game.”

For whom is ESO suitable? Who loves the stories of The Elder Scrolls and enjoys MMORPGs with an active combat system and blocking should definitely check out ESO. ESO plays more like Skyrim than WoW: It is not a classic MMO, especially invites exploration because the usual level restrictions are absent and can also be played well alone over long stretches.
PvP fans and players who place value on an item spiral and significant progress in leveling will likely be happier with the game on the next page.
