Trophies for a Unique Look
In MMORPGs, nothing is more boring than a crowd of heroes who all look the same. After all, no one wants to step into the role of a cookie-cutter soldier when the clone troopers attack.
Fortunately, there are now a variety of systems that allow players to express themselves individually. The transmog system from WoW, for example, which allows you to adjust the style of all armor pieces, has become more powerful and flexible over the years. Coloring the outfit, as is possible in Guild Wars 2 or Elder Scrolls Online, is still not available.
A great feature of Warhammer Online was the trophy system, which allowed you to earn special items to adorn your character, mount, or guild banner. It’s important that these features are not just used to lure players into the in-game shop because the cool skins are only available there.
Why is There So Little Sailing?
While many MMORPGs allow you to soar through the skies with flying creatures or wings, there are relatively few genre representatives that send heroes out to sea to search for treasures, battle pirates, and hunt sea monsters.
Positive examples can be found in Ultima Online, ArcheAge, Black Desert, and Lost Ark. Many other MMORPGs leave their oceans untouched, and thus, miss the opportunity to establish new, motivating gameplay content through shipbuilding and the gradual improvement of one’s vessel.
These were ten killer features that the MeinMMO editorial team would wish for every new MMORPG. Do you have one or more favorites on the list? Or do you have additions that would also fit well in any online RPG? And what should an MMORPG look like to get you hyped? For MeinMMO editor Karsten, the case is clear: If someone announces such an MMORPG, I will take a front seat on the hype train.
