Many heroes from Overwatch lead to controversial discussions in the community. With the dispute over Brigitte, a clever fan has now trolled the community quite well.
What does everyone have against Brigitte? Since her release, the Overwatch hero Brigitte has caused a lot of controversy in the community. She had a strong impact on the meta and was already nerfed. She received her first nerf shortly after her appearance on the PTR.
Even the “#deletebrig” movement has formed, which demands that Brigitte be removed from the game because she is too strong a counter against Tracer and Genji. A player has now trolled this part of the community quite effectively.
Fan trolls with fake post from Jeff Kaplan
“Official” post on reddit and Twitter: The Twitter user Froztaine uploaded a screenshot that shows an official post from Jeff Kaplan in the forum. The post states that after the post of a “brave player” named Cavalry on Twitter, Brigitte will be removed from the game.
The post mentions that the team came across Cavalry’s tweet, in which he urged the team to listen more to the community. With the next patch, where Overwatch is also supposed to be reinstalled, Brigitte would be removed from the game.
The post itself was created by the Reddit user TheFattenedSausage.
Drastic measures: The removal of Brigitte is a response to the complaints of the players. But it goes even further, and the fictional post announces penalties for all Brigitte players:
- Players with more than 60% playtime on Brigitte will have their ranked points reset
- Players with more than 80% playtime will have their account reset and receive 75% less XP for Season 13
- Players with more than 90% will receive a ban and their hardware will be permanently excluded from all Blizzard services
These evidently harsh measures haven’t prevented many community members from initially believing the post.
Fans disappointed by falsehood: Most probably only realized it was a fake upon reading the last sentence of the post:
We sincerely apologize for publishing this pile of dog crap of a hero and will do our best to not be such damn idiots in the future. Kind regards and Cavalry can still kill no one without Nanoblade. [Note from the editor: combination of Genji’s and Ana’s Ultimate]
On Reddit, there were many comments wishing that this was all not a fake. The hatred towards Brigitte seems to run so deep that even such trolls are gladly believed.
