How much content is “enough content”? Do MMOs really need to be playable continuously for weeks? We want to know your opinion on this.
It is the classic problem that a large part of PvE MMOs struggles with: the dreaded content drought. Sooner or later, players finish the new content that is released. Some do it faster, others take longer. But eventually, players start to get bored when no new content arrives.
However, PvP-focused MMOs can also experience this issue. When no new weapons, maps, or in the case of MOBAs, heroes, are released for a very long time, the community often becomes restless as well.
Player numbers then decline and the amount of complaints increases. People generally want to enjoy the game, but somehow there’s nothing to do.
- There are developers who release large amounts of content and try to keep their players entertained permanently, for example in the form of major expansions or seasons.
- Others, however, say that players can simply stop and play something else when they run out of content. This includes the director of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida.
