Fans have suspected Crypto as the next legend of Apex Legends for quite some time. Now, an employee has reignited this suspicion with a teaser. We will reveal what we know so far.
What does this hint mean? Developer Tina Sanchez posted some images and comments on Twitter. The images show her in a motion capture suit, which is used to record lifelike movements for characters.
The images were simply titled: “Working on Apex Legends stuff.” When asked by a fan if this was about Crypto, only a mouthless smiley was returned as a reply. This fuels the rumor mill.
Crypto – the new legend for Apex Legends?
What’s in favor of Crypto: Crypto was introduced as a possible legend with the start of Season 2. His name appeared early in the game files, and in the trailers and teasers for Season 2, there were several scenes that hinted at the hacker.
The videos show an unseen person typing something on a laptop and apparently distributing a hack or malware.
Shortly after, the Repulsor Tower collapses, destroying part of the map and the island’s protection. This caused the changes for Season 2.
What we know about Crypto: So far, only speculation surrounds what Crypto’s abilities might be. They are said to have something to do with hacking and technology. It’s conceivable that Crypto:
- can foresee the ring or perhaps drops, similar to Pathfinder
- gets some sort of EMP attack
- can disrupt enemy shields or abilities
- can attack with his sword that hangs on his back
More is known about his appearance. An image of Crypto emerged early on. In the artwork of Pathfinder, a person in a yellow jacket can be seen on a banner behind the robot, which is supposed to represent Crypto.
If he can really deal well with fortified positions using his abilities, he would already be a counter to the new legend Wattson. However, it is still unclear what he will actually be able to do.
When will Crypto arrive? So far, it is unknown when or if Crypto will appear at all. Season 2 is expected to end in October. However, if the animation recordings are indeed for Crypto, he could still make it to Apex Legends during that time.
What if it’s not Crypto?
This legend is still possible: There is currently also a rumor that the next legend could be “Rosie.” The name Rosie appeared in the same leak where Crypto was first mentioned.
However, there are currently very few hints about Rosie. The data miner That1MiningGuy only states that Tina Sanchez’s size and stature might not fit Crypto, but rather could align with Rosie (via Dexerto). She might also come after Crypto. Until more is known, the many players of Apex Legends can only wait and see:
