The notorious stick drift annoys many players. A user has presented a trick that can help you fix the problem in some cases. We will introduce you to the trick and tell you what you need to do.
A well-known issue with controllers is the so-called stick drift: the analog sticks can start producing unwanted inputs after some time because they can no longer be adjusted properly. They then “drift” off, and you move even though you are standing still.
In most cases, the best way to fix controller drift is to return it to the manufacturer for repair if it’s still under warranty. However, a user has now presented a trick that you should definitely try out.
Trick helps if your controller is dirty inside
What is this trick? The colleagues from Gamingbible.com report that a player explains how the issue with stick drift can be fixed. In many cases, this trick can fix the drifting of the sticks if the problems are caused by deposits inside the sticks (via reddit.com).
This is how the trick works:
- Gently press the analog stick down with your palm, just enough for the L3 or R3 button to click.
- While applying this gentle pressure, move the stick clockwise for about a minute and then do the same counterclockwise.
- Then apply a bit more pressure, not much more, just a little, and repeat the whole process.
Does the trick help? The user already points out that it depends on your controller. We were able to test this ourselves in the editorial office. The trick worked on one of our controllers, but unfortunately not on another.
Since the trick costs you nothing, you should definitely try it out. Because in the best case, you’ll save yourself the purchase of a new controller.
