There have long been rumors surrounding Sony and a new PS5. Now there is another sign that Sony might soon introduce a new model.
Specifically, many rumors repeatedly center around a PS5 version with a removable drive. Now Sony has registered another patent, which further fuels these rumors.
However, please note that these are rumors and there has been no official statement from Sony itself.
Drive should also be usable on computers
The newly registered patent again points towards a removable drive. However, the new patent refers to the possibility of connecting this component to computers or audiovisual devices. In this way, it seems more like an external drive, similar to what one can already buy for a laptop or desktop PC. On Amazon, you can find various drives for around 20 euros.
How sensible this really is, is another question. DVD and Blu-Ray drives have hardly played a role on PCs anymore, since most games are now sold digitally and do not require a disc. Unless you want to play DVDs or music CDs on your PC.
Why does this all point to a release? Currently, rumors are piling up around the removable drive. Initially, many dismissed this as a bad joke. But by now, the evidence for such a drive or at least an option is becoming more substantial.
Many rumors circulating about Sony and PS5
For a while now, there has been speculation that Sony is planning new products for the PlayStation 5. These include:
- a handheld console for the PS5.
- the Project Nomad, which is said to involve wireless headphones.
- the Project Voyager, which is said to be a wireless headset.
At least the wireless headphones sound promising. Our editor Benedikt Schlotmann could fulfill a major wish with these from Sony.
