This is what it’s about: The official announcement of FIFA 20 actually only contains two pieces of information: The start time of EA Play and a “game-changing Announcement”. What it is about, of course, remains open.
In the community, the speculation started immediately. What surprise will EA reveal on Saturday? The only clue one can rely on right now: A six-second teaser on Twitter.
The teaser includes the date of EA Play and a stylized football field that changes color, as well as an unknown logo. This logo can also be seen in the background of the announcement page and is currently the focal point of all possible theories:
Update 07.06.19, 5:00 PM: EA has released another teaser for FIFA 20 on Twitter. Here, brief clips of people playing football around the world can be seen. The motto of the teaser: The Stadium is anywhere.
This looks like a new FIFA Street mode, a dream for many FIFA fans. But we will know more tomorrow; EA has confirmed the reveal for 4 PM German time.

The “game-changing announcement”: A new mode?
This is what players suspect: On reddit, there are several theories about what the announcement could be about. Some make more sense than others – and officially, none of them is correct. Nevertheless, it is worth taking a look at the theories, also to see what players wish for.
A new five-a-side mode: One theory focuses mainly on the new logo. It could be inspired by the Roman numeral “V”, which means “5”. In the thread about the new teaser, this is one of the theories that seems plausible: FIFA 20 could have a new five-a-side mode. But in what form?
Most players suspect a variation of the Pro Club mode towards five player teams. Another possibility is that it could be the long-desired street mode, which would also be played in smaller teams.
Some also refer to the color-changing football field from the teaser and see it as a hint towards indoor football. A skill moves-based mode on a small field? Sounds good. But would it really be “game-changing”?
An extremely improved career mode: One point that has been raised often in the past is the career mode. Here, some Reddit users hope for a significant improvement and believe that the announcement refers to it. Especially since “The Journey” seems to have come to an end for now. For many, a new career mode would be a real reason to buy.
A mixture of both modes could bring a new single-player experience while fulfilling the wishes of many players. But at the same time, many fear that this will remain a wishful thinking: They suspect that EA will continue to focus more on the lucrative Ultimate Team rather than building a competitor mode. Also, no conclusions can be drawn about the logo for now.
Could the change be bigger?
A new engine: Some users like “Stepanovic” and “TheKingcrawler” point out that “game-changing” should refer to the entire game – and not just to a single mode. Such a change could concern the engine.
Notably, the teaser for FIFA 20 lacks the logo of the Frostbite engine, which was used to develop FIFA 19. Is the new “V” logo the emblem of a new engine?
However, the assumption is that EA will likely switch to a new engine only with the new console generation. But this would be a massive change that would likely alter a lot about the gameplay. Many players have been wanting this for a long time.
Does Google Stadia play a role?
This is Google Stadia: Stadia is a new gaming platform from Google, which runs on the company’s data centers. The service will launch with a total of 31 titles, of which 28 are already known. However, three more are still missing: one from Capcom, one from Rockstar, and one from EA.
As the FIFA series is known to be offered on most platforms, it seems likely that FIFA 20 could also be available via Stadia. Could the “game-changing announcement” refer to the missing EA title for the Stadia launch being FIFA 20? The mystery should be solved on Saturday:
