Minecraft immortalizes Technoblade with Easter egg in the launcher
Techno, whose real name was Alex, was always very concerned about his privacy and that of his family. Fans did not know his real name or face until his death. Instead, he was mainly associated with his Minecraft skin, a pig with a crown and royal outfit. This became his trademark and adorned not only his social media channels but also numerous fan merchandise.
This is exactly what the Minecraft studio Mojang is playing on with its tribute to the deceased content creator. Those who open the current version of the Minecraft launcher can discover a change in the background of the title image. The little pig on the right side of the image now wears the YouTuber’s crown.
On Twitter, the fans’ reaction was positive. Some even said they were moved to tears. Others feel that the tribute does not go far enough. There are already petitions on change.org calling for Mojang to add a statue or a crowned pig as a rare spawn in the game.
Whether the change in the launcher is meant to be permanent or just temporary is still unknown.
Others also mourn online for Technoblade
Even elsewhere, people remember Technoblade. He gained fame on the minigame server Hypixel, where he won the “Great Potato War” in 2020. Currently, you can leave a message there, which is to be printed and handed over to Techno’s family:
Also in 2020, Technoblade joined the roleplay survival server Dream SMP. He had a friendly rivalry with its co-founder, the well-known Minecraft YouTuber Dream, over the title of “best Minecraft player.” Technoblade claimed this title in a tournament announced by YouTuber MrBeast in August 2020. Dream posted a tribute on YouTube, urging people to support Techno’s family and continue to respect their wish for privacy.
But condolences also came from rather unexpected sources. In addition to content creators from the gaming scene, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and author John Green commented on the YouTuber’s death. Technoblade’s son set up this memorial with a friend:
Technoblade was 23 years old. His death was announced on June 30 by his father. Technoblade addressed his community one last time through his father’s video message.
On YouTube, Technoblade had 10.9 million subscribers and averaged several million views per video. He gained a special status due to his PvP skills in Minecraft and was part of the Minecraft multiplayer server Dream SMP as well as the Minecraft server Hypixel.
