The Game Director of World of Warcraft is happy with The War Within – and that, despite many bugs.
World of Warcraft: The War Within is generally considered a complete success – both for Blizzard and for the player community. The Game Director, Ion Hazzikostas, is also quite satisfied with the result. There are only a few mistakes he regrets – one of them being the annoying scaling bug that primarily affected the depths and the leveling-up experience in the first weeks.
What was said? In an interview with the magazine Games Radar, Hazzikostas spoke about The War Within and how satisfied they are with the expansion so far.
We have a lot of work ahead of us and a big, interesting story, systems, and features. But, when I think about the first months of The War Within, to be honest, on a high level, I don’t regret much as Game Director.
When asked what concerns come to mind, he primarily mentions a bug that dominated the first weeks of The War Within in several forms:
Yes, of course, if I could catch this scaling bug [that would be great]. I would love to go back and fix a few mistakes in the scaling and such things. But on a high level, regarding how our big bets paid off, how we equipped the features, and created the world for this ambitious story, I think that was worth it.
Why were there so many bugs? The fact that World of Warcraft, especially after Patch 11.0.5, was plagued by many bugs that sometimes made raiding impossible had deeper reasons. With the update, some of the foundations of World of Warcraft, which had become outdated, were revised. To make the game fit for the future, parts of the underlying systems were renewed – and in doing so, some complications arose that only became apparent afterward.
