In 2025, there was an action-adventure game called MindsEye, akin to James Bond, designed to immerse players in thrilling and cool situations. However, the first reviews on Steam crushed the hype surrounding the title. One person, however, still believes in its success.
What kind of game is this? MindsEye is described as a “story-driven action-adventure” set in the “not too distant future.” It carries the essence of any “James Bond” film. Plenty of action, cool explosions, but also an engaging story with highs and lows.
However, players and testers found that MindsEye simply failed to meet the high expectations. There was massive criticism regarding performance, technical issues, the open world, and the absence of RPG systems at launch. Many players also felt the story was too shallow.
Even though the potential of the title was often praised, it seems that the initial reviews led to players hesitating before completely forgetting about MindsEye. With a peak player count of 3,300 on Steam, the title quickly faded from players’ minds. Yet, one still believes in its potential.

A CEO stands behind his project
What does the CEO say about the title? In an interview with GamesBeat, CEO Mark Gerhard discussed the future of MindsEye. Contrary to all expectations, it was not painted as the end, but rather a bright future.
He explains in the interview: “We are very excited about this next chapter […]” but also acknowledges: “We know that we undoubtedly had the worst launch of all time. There are many reasons for this, but we are now planning to relaunch our game, as the disruptions have been resolved.”
For this relaunch, the developers, “Build A Rocket Boy,” have now parted ways with publisher IOI Partners A/S and are marketing the title independently. They claim that things are already looking up.
According to the CEO, the game is receiving very good reviews and “Sales figures are rising organically and almost doubling weekly,” he states in the interview. However, looking at player numbers on Steam, the title has only reached a peak of 80 players in the last 3 months (Source: SteamDB).
With 67%, the 91 new reviews on Steam rate the title better than its 45% ratings at launch, but one cannot yet speak of success.
What does he think is the reason for the poor reviews? The CEO also admits that MindsEye had significant difficulties with bugs at release. He even believes that its launch was sabotaged.
This goes as far as him revealing in the interview that they have allegedly identified the involved parties, and both “authorities in the UK and the USA” are now investigating.
I can confirm that they are assisting us in these investigations, but now the matter is in their hands. We leave it to them to do their work, make arrests, or provide explanations in due time. I don’t think we will make any further statements regarding this at this point. We just let the natural course of justice take its course.

In the interview, the CEO also refutes the claim that many players returned MindsEye. He states that the return rate of 2.2% on Xbox and 3.2% on PlayStation is completely within normal limits.
The launch of MindsEye did not go as the developers had hoped. At the same time, the title also seems unable to convince new players. Whether the developers will truly achieve a comeback remains to be seen. However, one participant is still worried: An actor becomes the face of a game on Steam, and now he is worried about his future
