In 2016, the spin-off comic Here’s Negan was released. The spin-off tells the story of Negan before he met Rick Grimes and his group. In the first chapter of the comic, we also learn what Negan did before the apocalypse. He was a table tennis teacher and worked at a school.
But probably no one would have liked him as a teacher, because in the comic, we see him start to insult a teenager after winning against him. It is particularly uncomfortable because he does it in front of the teenager’s friends. When asked why he does it, he says he just wants to be the cool teacher, that it’s a joke.
