Not only Witcher 4, but also at least Witcher 5 and maybe even part 6 – that’s what fans can look forward to, as CD Projekt RED has now confirmed.
When looking back at the major role-playing hits of recent years, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is certainly one of the biggest successes. Hardly anyone has not at least heard of the RPG epic featuring Geralt and Ciri – most probably own it in some form for PC or console. After all, the 3rd part of the saga has sold more than 40 million copies.
What was said? During an “Earning’s Call”, which is an investors’ conference, the future of the Witcher franchise was discussed. During this, the CEO of CD Projekt RED, Adam Kicinski, revealed that there will be several Witcher titles telling a new saga.
We are thinking of more than one [game]. The first saga consisted of 3 games and now we are thinking about more than one, and we are in pre-production of the first game of the second Witcher saga.
In plain language, this means there will be several Witcher games in the coming years and that the games of the new saga will likely build on each other to tell a continuous story.
It was quite similar with the first 3 Witcher titles, where decisions had an impact on the plot of the following parts. For instance, in Witcher 3, you could feel the effects of the choices you made in part 2 at many points.
What is the new saga about? So far, very little is known about the story of the new Witcher saga. It is clear that the story featuring Geralt and Ciri is likely concluded. The plot was largely wrapped up with Witcher 3 – so no one should expect to step into the shoes of the former protagonist again.
A first teaser showed a lynx medallion several months ago, which belonged to one of the major witcher schools. Fans speculated there might be a focus on Ciri, but that is not yet confirmed.
What else is known? Unfortunately, relatively little. It is interesting that the newest Witcher title is supposed to be developed in collaboration with Epic Games, as the first title of the new saga will use Unreal Engine 5.
This, however, does not mean that the next Witcher title will only be available in the Epic Games Store. They want the game to be accessible on as many platforms as possible, so no one needs to worry about an exclusive release on one platform or another.

However, no one should expect a release anytime soon. Since the next Witcher title is still in “pre-production”, a release within the next few years seems more than unlikely. So expect no new journey into the Witcher cosmos before 2025.
Anyone who has not yet ventured out with the witcher Geralt should perhaps wait a little longer. Because an updated version of Witcher 3 for the newest console generation is set to be released later this year and should at least bridge the wait for the next big title.
A real cult has formed around “Witcher” – there was even a real Witcher school that trained more than 3,000 witchers.
