The war in World of Warcraft has found a temporary end. But not everything seems to be in order with the Alliance …
After the cinematic at the end of the war campaign of Battle for Azeroth, it is clear that the war has come to an end. However, while the Horde has lost its Warchief and a new leader needs to be found, the Alliance seems to be a bit unstable. At least various dialogues suggest that not everyone in the Alliance is happy with the current state.
Tyrande and Malfurion are missing, do not respond anymore
During the last quests of the war campaign, you can speak with Anduin and ask him why Tyrande is not present. He reveals to the player that Tyrande (and thus also Malfurion) has not responded to the King’s letters since her departure to the Darkshore. Anduin suspects that “revenge has consumed her”.
Indeed Anduin and Tyrande did not part on good terms when the king denied the Night Elves troops to reclaim the Darkshore. Tyrande then took her Night Elves with her and took matters into her own hands (along with some Worgen). In doing so, she underwent the Ritual of the Night Warrior, making her the Avatar of Elune’s vengeance. Many other Night Elves were also transformed by this ritual and now have black eyes.
The black-eyed are missing at the battle: This is also noticeable at the end of the war campaign. Although there are some Night Elf troops led by Shandris, Night Elves with black eyes are completely absent. Not a single one of the present NPCs belongs to the Night Elves who have undergone the ritual. A dialogue between two guards also reveals that some of the Night Elves are concerned about their leader:
Guard (1): I worry about Tyrande. The Night Warrior is fierce, but … can a mortal control such powers forever?
Guard (2): She is the High Priestess of Elune. If anyone can wield the power of the goddess, it is her.
Guard (1): Maybe you are right …
Doubts within the Alliance persist in their own ranks
But other dialogues also suggest that there is currently something amiss within the Alliance. Many NPCs in cities have received new dialogues and talk about the current events. It becomes clear that not everyone approves of the Alliance, its leadership, and decisions.
Gilnear Refugee: This is the second homeland we have lost.
Therum Deepforge: King Anduin is too soft. He follows the call of an orc. Mourning at the Horde’s burial.
Kaita Deepforge: Be careful. Such talk borders on treason.
Therum Deepforge: And what will he do about it? Put me in chains? He would never.
Kaita Deepforge: He wouldn’t, because he is a good king.
Especially among the Kul Tirans, there are some doubts, who have only recently become part of the Alliance again. One can overhear this dialogue:
Kul Tiran (1): I have heard that the winds of war are slowly dying down.
Kul Tiran (2): They should not have tightened our sails from the beginning. This is the war of the Alliance, not ours.
Kul Tiran (1): We are part of the Alliance again, you know?
Kul Tiran (2): Aye, and all these battles remind me why we left them in the first place.
Is the Alliance crumbling? Of course, these are just a few excerpts from the new dialogues. There are also many who are simply happy about the end of the war or mourn their dead. But it is clear that some are not satisfied with the Alliance at the moment.
Blizzard has hinted in the past that the Alliance could also face internal conflicts and that this would be an exciting area to explore in the future. It seems that with the conclusion of the war campaign, at least the groundwork has been laid for this.
Would you like to see more conflicts within the Alliance? Or is it more interesting when the Alliance pulls together?
