In CoD Cold War, the Zombie mode has received the new update with “Mauer der Toten”. However, for many players, the new content is a nightmare full of bugs and virtually unplayable. Especially the Xbox Series X/S seems to be affected.
What is wrong with the Mauer der Toten? Currently, many CoD Zombies players are complaining about bugs and glitches in the new map Mauer der Toten. For example, our reader Viktor Frankenstein wrote yesterday in the comments on CoD patch notes about his problems:
Are you also experiencing massive BUG/graphics/glitch issues in the new Zombie map: MAUER der TOTEN? I am playing on the Xbox Series X and have extreme problems, so I reset my console to factory settings and re-download CoD Black Ops Cold War. Hopefully, it will work again?
Unfortunately, the reinstallation and reset had no effect, and other players on reddit are reporting the following problems:
- Textures are not loading, especially in the subway
- The game freezes for minutes
- Zombies are silent and make no sound
- Dialogue between characters remains silent
All of this makes the new content virtually unplayable and really spoils the fun for players. The update seemed clearly unfinished, according to the angry fans, and it should not have been released to the servers in this state.
Bugs primarily affect Xbox users
Where do the bugs occur? Curiously, nearly all affected players report that they are playing on an Xbox Series S or X. No reports have been observed from PlayStation gamers, and only one PC user was seen in a reddit thread complaining about bugs.
What can be done about the bugs? Until the developers get a handle on the bugs, players have found the following workarounds:
- Disabling ray tracing and removing HD texture packs seems to have helped some players.
- One user reports that the display refresh rate should be changed from 120hz to 60hz, which worked for him. However, none from the reddit thread could confirm this.
Of course, these are only temporary solutions, and players would like to experience the new zombie content as it was originally intended. One can only hope that the developers at Treyarch find a solution soon in the form of a hotfix or patch.
