The Walking Dead: For years fans stubbornly believed in a theory, now the producer personally disproves it

Scott Gimple, a showrunner and executive producer of The Walking Dead, recently spoke about a common fan theory regarding Rick Grimes and declared it false.

What is this fan theory? The theory stated that Rick Grimes, the initial protagonist of The Walking Dead, never wakes up from his coma and that everything that happened in the series is just a dream. However, as the showrunner revealed in a recent interview, this theory is incorrect.

“This is not a spoiler”

As part of the upcoming spin-off of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which will focus on Rick and Michonne, executive producer and showrunner Scott Gimple spoke in an exclusive interview on February 10, 2024, with ComicBook.com. He also addressed the well-known “it’s all just a dream” fan theory.

As he explained, he tries to stay away from such theories so that he is not influenced by them in the creative process, but he generally likes them quite a bit.

However, to the theory that Rick has merely dreamed everything, he finds clear words and refutes the long-standing assumption:

You know what? I try not to read too much of this stuff because I never want to accidentally adopt something from it, even though I love fan theories.

But I like people who still believe that Rick is still in that bed and is in a coma. I mean, that’s always the case, but that’s like in the comics… This is not a spoiler…. He is awake.

Fans of The Walking Dead in Germany will also be able to watch the series on Magenta TV a day later, on February 26, 2024.
