In The Walking Dead it is mainly about survival. Characters you hate or love are confronted with difficult situations within a zombie apocalypse in the series and also in the comics. But who is actually the strongest character? The creator of The Walking Dead has answered that.
What is The Walking Dead? In 2010, The Walking Dead started a successful zombie series that has now had several spin-offs that are still running today. These include:
- Fear the Walking Dead (8 seasons)
- The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2 seasons)
- Tales of the Walking Dead (1 season)
- The Walking Dead: Dead City (currently still running)
- The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (currently still running)
- The Walking Dead: The One Who Live (1 season)
The original series is actually based on the comics by Robert Kirkman. In a special edition of his comic, he even explained who the strongest character in the series is: Carl Grimes, one of the least popular characters in the series.
Comic Carl is different from in the series
What does Robert Kirkman say? Between 2003 and 2019, the comic series The Walking Dead ran. While the series is based on the comics, many events and characters are different. There is also a significant difference between series and comic Carl.
For Kirkman, he is the strongest character in the series and one of the few survivors at the end. In the special edition The Walking Dead Deluxe #101, he explains this, as Sensacine reports:
Carl is probably the strongest character in the series… he handles these things better than anyone else… which should be alarming. He still has a lot of life in him… I believe.

Carl is a markedly different character in the comics. In the series, he is one of the least popular characters among many fans, especially because he often acts quite irrationally and puts the group in danger. Just like a child.
At the end of the comics, Carl is also one of the last survivors of the group. At the end, he lives a life with his own family. In the series, Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, died in Episode 9 of Season 8.
What about Daryl? For many series fans, Daryl would probably be the strongest character in the series. He has shown his survival skills from the beginning and is still living in his own spin-off. In fact, Daryl is a character exclusive to the series. He never appeared in the comics.
