The Twitch streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney believes he is now too famous to succeed in Fortnite tournaments. He thinks players are after his fame and are thus hunting him down.
This is the situation: The Fortnite pro Tfue participated with his partner “Scoped” in the “Fortnite Champions Series” in Duo mode. In the grand final, there was a problem in the last round.
Other duos allegedly targeted Tfue intentionally, the streamer claims. He thinks they are after his “clout”.
“I just have the most viewers.”
What was Tfue’s problem? The Twitch streamer landed at “The Grotto” just as he did in the practice rounds. This landing spot had already caused trouble in the qualifying rounds.
In the last round of the finals, even more teams landed at the same location as Tfue than usual. His duo partner “Scoped” said there were 4 opposing duos that landed with them.
The Twitch streamer seems to have a clear opinion about it: The players are after him.
“I just have the most viewers. If they can’t qualify, then they can at least try to kill me, you know?”
Tfue then decided to avoid the fights and go fishing at the beach, which is further away.
But then the next problem arose. While he was in the storm fishing for fish that he could eat to regain his health, an opposing duo appeared out of nowhere.
Both charged at Tfue and played very aggressively. During this encounter, he was eliminated.
“They are clout farmers. Every time in the final round. These kids are just damn clout farmers. What are they even doing?”
Players are after his clout
What does Tfue mean by that? “Clout farmers,” as Tfue calls them, want to thrust themselves into the spotlight. This works particularly well with streamers who are very well-known.
Many viewers will be present in the stream. If they kill this streamer, their name appears on the screen, and everyone can see it. Now everyone knows who killed the famous streamer.
Moreover, they can brag about having killed a well-known streamer or pro. They usually regard this as a significant achievement.
In this case, it works out well because Tfue was number 1 on Twitch in 2019 and has many fans. He is very well-known in the Fortnite scene. Therefore, he thinks these players would intentionally sabotage his tournament experience to have their 5 minutes of fame.
In this final, they might have succeeded, as there were an average of 113,000 viewers on Tfue’s stream (via sullygnome), who now know the names of the opponents. Was it worth it?
For exactly such cases, Tfue’s rival Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has devised a strategy. This is supposed to keep stream snipers away, allowing them to avoid such moments when players want their 5 minutes of fame and ruin the matches for the streamers.
